URGENT HELP NEEDED - Raising £10,000k in the next 100 hours by running 100k over 2 days this weekend for this man, Mark Broadhurst.
Imagine this......... you're a 49 year old man, run your own business, cycle 60 miles daily, married to your childhood sweetheart, have three beautiful children, 7,11,14. Life seems pretty perfect right?
Wrong! That niggling pain you thought was something and nothing, turns out to be terminal stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Your world is turned upside down overnight. Mark was diagnosed on 8th July 2020 and told to expect the worst.
How on earth can anyone compute this news. What would your natural instinct be? Fight or flight, but Jeez, what a fight to be faced with.
This is the very real story of my friend/cousin/brother from another mother, Mark Broadhurst. Mark and I have grown up together, his folks were best mates with mine. He was the reason I was born. Is my Daughters Godfather. He was even my first kiss at 3 years old.
Since then Mark has gone Vegan, cut out all sugar and his wife Claire has been the most incredible support and has spent hours and hours and sleepless nights researching what vitamins, herbal remedies or anything that will help reduce the spread of the cancer. Even down to an oxygen chamber to help the way his blood flows through his body. It has been one long hard slog for them both and that is putting it mildly. Both emotionally and financially.
So this weekend myself and Clare Riley are going to run an Ultra Marathon of 100k over 2 days, sleeping in a tent in-between! That's more than a marathon on each day. Those that know me, know that I really hate running and really hate sleeping in a tent. However the pain we are going to endure is nothing compared to what Mark is going through and although it wont cure this cruel cruel disease, We want him to know that we love him, he will be in our thoughts every step of the way and its the least we can do to show him - we just wish we could do more.
This challenge finishes in 100 hours time and we would like to raise £10,000 - so that's £100 an hour.
Mark is still fighting like a trojan, despite spending days in hospital than at home these past few months. Not being allowed visitors due to covid and being left alone with his own thoughts, is unimaginable and I am fully of admiration for how he is dealing with it hour by hour.
We want to show Mark and Claire solidarity and love. He would do the same and I want him to know that he is not alone. What lies ahead is a very very scary and lonely place. We want to take this away even for a few moments by achieving this goal. We need your help though.
