Hey! My name is Orlagh and I have decided to take on this challenge in order to raise funds for some amazing charities, some of whom many of us didn't even know about a year ago!
On the 24th April 2025, we very suddenly and unexpectedly lost our dear Jordan. This plunged those who knew and loved Jordan into complete shock and disbelief, and has left his loving family to face every day without their precious son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin, trying to make sense of this tragedy. Jordan is so loved and painfully missed every day by his family, who he completely adored.
Personally, Jordan was one of my closest friends and we, along with our circle of friends have some of the best memories, which are now more cherished than ever. If you had the honour of knowing Jordan, you will know he had the best sense of humour, usually with a quote, meme or gif to perfectly sum up a situation. He had an amazing sense of adventure, having travelled all over the States, parts of Europe and all over Ireland and the UK. He had great taste in music, with some of his playlists still being on my daily Spotify listens. He was extremely wise and gave great advice and was there to help when his friends were in need. There are so many reasons so many of us were drawn to him, and why it hurts so much that we can no longer have those laughs and chats with him. We are all just waiting for that day we get to see him and have him close again... before he goes off to explore the world!
Jordan passed away from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) which is something that most people have never heard of. It's a rare but devastating event and the exact cause is unknown. Approximately 33 adults die from SUDEP every year. More research on cause and prevention is needed.
Which brings us to this fundraiser! I have decided to take on this challenge of walking/running/hiking 100k in the 30 days in April to raise money for three very worthy charities. Any donation, big or small is greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference to the lives of those who have been affected by epilepsy or have lost a loved one to SUDEP.
SUDEP Action (UK) - A UK based charity who work extremely hard to raise awareness of SUDEP and provide counselling services for bereaved loved ones, grief support and assisting with inquests or evidence trials in the courts. They have been a real help to Jordan's family in the months following his passing.
Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust - A charity set up to help families whos loved ones have died away from home to alleviate the stress and cost of bringing them home.
Epilepsy Ireland - Offering a range of services and support to individuals or families of individuals with epilepsy, they also work closely with SUDEP Action to raise awareness and bring this to people's attention. https://www.epilepsy.ie/
Thank you in advance for your donations and helping us reach our target. The final amount will be split evenly between all 3 charities, who have also asked me to thank you for your generosity. Every penny/cent will really make a difference to those affected. If you are at all in a position to donate, regardless of how big or small, thank you.
I know Jordan would be amazed that this is happening in his name, but I really hope to make him proud with this and hope you can all follow the updates along the way!
Thanks, Orlagh x
