$10,000 SBMHS Launch Matching Challenge
Donation protected
The cofounders of SBMHS, Eileen Mariani, M.Ed. and Eric Oglesbee, Ph.D., are educators who saw the need for a new kind of high school to meet the needs of adolescents.
The result of their collaboration is South Bend Montessori High School (SBMHS) , an innovative, urban, mixed-income, Montessori high school scheduled to open in Fall 2020 in downtown South Bend. By intentional design, one-third of seats are reserved for low-income, middle-income, and high-income families, respectively.
To date, the project has already received $140k from the Drexel Fund to support curriculum development and school planning, and a private donor has contributed $10k toward facility lease expenses during the 2019 - 2020 planning year.
On September 9th, 2019, SBMHS signed a lease agreement to launch in 1st Presbyterian Church's Education Wing in downtown South Bend. As a part of the agreement, SBMHS will need to make $20,500 in renovations to the space. To help with student recruitment and curriculum development, renovations will begin in December 2019.
A donor has stepped forward and pledged a dollar-for-dollar matching challenge gift of $10,000 for funds raised by December 31, 2019 – will you help us meet that challenge?
