No Electricity. No Water. 10,000 Lives at Risk.
Donation protected
Hello, I’m Ege Göknur, a friend of Qusay — a young English teacher from Gaza who’s trying to keep his community alive through the worst crisis of their lives.
Qusay and his family are sheltering at Al-Azhar University in the west of Gaza, along with over 10,000 displaced people. Right now, there’s a water well that could serve them all — but it’s useless without power. There’s no electricity. No fuel. Just a dead pump.
This fundraiser is to install a basic solar system so that water can flow again. That’s all. No politics, no organizations, just people helping people stay alive.
Please read below Qusay's words to see exactly what’s needed and how you can help.
"We already have the water pump.
It’s installed. It works.
The pipes are there. The connections are there. The well is dug.
Everything’s ready — except we can’t run it.
Why? No fuel. No electricity. Nothing.
This water pump is located at the Science Building of Al-Azhar University in Gaza.
It’s meant to serve one of the largest (if not the largest) displacement shelters in the Strip — the University shelter.
There are 13 buildings inside the shelter.
There are also families living in tents in every open space, courtyard, and spot of shade between the buildings.
Altogether, this well serves more than 1,500 families, that’s over 10,000 people inside the University walls.
And this is the only well inside the entire shelter — but we still can’t run it unless people inside the camp collect money every single day to buy diesel, just to pump salty water for a few hours.
Yeah — salty.
The water here in western Gaza is undrinkable.
But people still need it, to wash, clean, survive.
So when clean drinking water is already hard to get, and now even basic-use water becomes a daily crisis. it’s just too much.
We already coordinated everything with the people running the shelter.
They’re of course part of the shelter and not outsiders.
And honestly — we’re already halfway there.
The pump is done. The system is ready.
All we need is solar.
That’s it. That’s the whole campaign.
Why solar?
Because fuel is expensive — if you can even find it.
Because electricity is completely dead.
Because we’re tired of surviving off short-term band-aid solutions.
Because people shouldn’t have to beg for diesel just to stay clean.
We just want the sun to run the pump — simple as that.
We found good-quality 650W double-glass bifacial panels, and we already have someone ready to install everything.
Phase 1 — This Campaign
For now, we are just raising funds to cover:
✅ 4 × 650W bifacial solar panels → $6 per watt × 650W × 4 = $15,600
✅ 3,000W solar inverter (suitable for a 3-horsepower pump) → $3,000
✅ Wires + basic installation → $200
Total Needed for Phase 1: $18,800
That’s it. Just what’s needed to make the pump work during daylight hours.
Phase 2 — If Donations Allow
If things go well and we’re able to raise more later, here’s what we plan next:
Add 4 × 200Ah gel batteries to store solar energy for cloudy days
Build water points at each building’s door, so people don’t have to carry gallons across the shelter
But for now, we’re keeping it simple. Just the daytime solar system.
An important thing is that the system will be portable. So if people leave the shelter one day, we can move it to another location and help others.
I’m not an NGO. Not a charity.
I’m just a person in Gaza, stuck like everyone else and trying to solve one clear problem.
If you help us run this pump on solar,
you’re not just giving water.
You’re giving 10,000 people a bit of stability in a place where nothing is stable anymore.
That’s all.
Please, with all the hope we have left, help us save our lives. We need your urgent humanitarian support today to provide homeless refugees with water.
Please help as you can (no donation is too small!). If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser as often as possible. ❤️ Thank you."
