I've been searching for the 'why' to running 100 miles for a while now. Up until today it's all been centred around me, my life, my family. Which is fine, I have plenty of intrinsic 'whys'. But I felt like my 'why' wasnt complete. There had to be more that was outside of my world. Something that I could say 'hey, this will matter' and it matters to me. So for me this part of the 'why' was elusive.
Perhaps (and most likely) I have been blessed with a loving healthy family, that has lived a largely carefree and happy existence, that hasn't had to experience the hardships that other have had to endure. Perhaps it's been pure luck that this 'why' is not so easy to put a finger on. Unfortunately however, the 'why' came today.
Unfortunately in so much that a family I barely know are battling life changing circumstances for their son. This family showed immense kindness and took in my son when he was in a foreign country, with no friends and family, and showed him love and compassion and a place he could call home, all without any question or hesitation. It was pure and true.
This resonates deeply. I dont know these folks well, but what I do know is that I cant sit by and not try. Do something. Like they did for my family.
Nico (19) has been diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. Instead of looking ahead to new adventures, he is now fighting for his health—and his future. He lives in South Africa where healthcare costs and specialist care is privately funded. It's a heck of a battle..think 9 rounds of chemo as a starter.
So I'm going to be running UTMB Tarawera 100 miles on Feb 15 in the hope that I can raise something towards his cause.
This is where you can help.
Whether it be the £3 saved from a cup of coffee, or something bigger, or the promise of me buying you a beer, any contribution will be massive.
I'm going to run 100 miles at without a doubt. You can bank on that.
Perhaps together we can help someone else achieve that same goal one day.
You all rock!
Pete
