100 miles in a Penguin Costume. CCB Roadrunners

On February 16th & 17th, 2019 a question as old as time will be answered:
Can a person run 100 miles?
In less than 30 hours?
In a penguin costume?
Along the Erie canal?
In the middle of winter?

I, Tom Brooks, will answer this at the Beast of Burden Winter 100 mile in Lockport, NY
http://www.beastofburden100.com/

Since 2017 I have volunteered as a guide for visually impaired runners.  Training most Sunday mornings on Toronto's beltline trail.  I have guided Grant Robinson at Ottawa half marathon in 2017, New York City marathon in 2017, and Boston marathon in 2018.  In October, I guided Craig Spurrell when he became the first blind runner to complete the Cape to Cabot 20km road race in St. John's, Nfld.

Craig is now the president of the recently formed Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) Roadrunners and my feat of endurance (and fun) is in support of this charity.  Running with Craig and the Roadrunners has inspired my own running and I have completed two 100 mile races and a 50 mile race

Toronto's midtown group is a strong community of athletes and guides.  Team member goal races for 2019 include Beast of Burden 50 Mile, Ottawa half and full marathons, Cape to Cabot 20k, Chicago marathon, and Toronto Waterfront marathon.

All funds raised will support costs associated with competing at these races and also to expand the M20 (Midtown 20k), an annual race organized by Craig along the Don River.

As an additional incentive: if anyone pledges $500 or more, you can add another strange task to my ordeal.  Want to see a penguin carry a stuffed toy fish? We can negotiate!  Should I play a kazoo every time I enter one of the 15 aid stations? Maybe!

Funds raised in this GoFundMe won't be used towards my participation in the Beast of Burden 100 mile.  Transport, accommodation, food, costume, etc.  will be arranged and paid for by me.

With any ultramarathon, circumstances beyond my control may prevent me from completing this event.  If I am not able to complete, then I will do something ridiculous for the Ottawa race weekend in May.

Thank you so much for your support and interest!
