100 miles for John
Our family will be walking 100 miles over 5 days, raising money to support and improve the quality of life of people living with dementia.
In 2004 our beloved dad and grandad, John Cank, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He courageously lived for 14 years before he passed away peacefully on the 11th January 2018. He was incredible. The most kind hearted, witty and inspiring man we have ever known. Everybody who knew him adored him, there wasn't a bad bone in his body. He was truly, thoroughly adored.
From the moment of his diagnosis, John set about following a strict health and fitness regime to prolong his quality of life, staying his positive and cheery self along the way. He was a lifelong walker; even when he couldn't remember where he was anymore, he took himself out for walks (wearing his GPS tracker!) and found his way home again multiple times every day, come rain or shine. Well into his 70's, John was still walking 90 miles every week! Walking was his happy place, it's what kept him going for so long.
Watching John over the last 14 years has shown us that with a positive frame of mind and the right care and support, it is possible to lead a happy, fulfilled life - albeit different - while living with dementia. In memory of John, we are raising money to support others in having the same opportunity of improving quality of life.
So to honour his memory, on the 20th August our family will begin 100 miles of walking, over 5 days, in Llandudno, John's favourite place to visit.
If your life has been affected by dementia like ours has, please help us by donating money to this very worthy cause. We have high hopes of making a real difference with the money we raise, all in the name of our precious, wonderful, one in a million John Cank.
Thank you!
