100 mile race across the Sahara Desert
I am taking part in an endurance running event next January.
It is the first race of its kind in that it is the distance of many 'ultra stage' races in just one single, self-sufficient stage across the Sahara Desert. It is 100 miles with a cut off time for completion of just 40 hours.
This is undoubtedly going to be my most challenging event yet, with huge sand dunes, rocky climbs, dangerous descents and dried up salt lakes to navigate and negotiate, coupled with spontaneous sandstorms and the intensity of the extreme daytime heat (50 degrees C) and the freezing temperatures of the night.
I am doing this to promote veganism in conjunction with endeavouring to raise enough funds to ensure the Sanctuary's survival through the coming winter and hopefully beyond. It is my attempt to secure the future of those who have already found sanctuary and to negate the need for such refuge for animals in generations to come.
Please watch the video for the full details, but in brief , I have been vegan almost my entire life - over half a century - and compete despite being told in my formative years, as a consequence of extensive knee surgeries, I would never walk properly again, let alone run . I have grown up and trained all my life as an ethical vegan and owe all my strength, fitness, muscle mass and endurance to plants. I have 4 Guinness World Records in marathon related events demonstrating emphatically that one can not only survive on a vegan diet, but thrive.
Please support me to promote veganism in a positive, peaceful and proactive way whilst helping the rescues at the Sanctuary continue to live their lives in safety
Forever, for the animals.
Thank you
