On the 5th February 2026, my daughter Eden was born unexpectedly premature at just 27 weeks, weighing just 1 kilo - a bag of sugar. My wife, Amber, Eden's mummy, faced life changing surgery after Eden was born. As you can imagine, this has been a very challenging and emotional time for our family.
Eden was born at St James’ Hospital in Leeds where she was promptly stabilised under the expert care of the dedicated and expert medical professionals from the Neonatal team.
As Eden was so tiny, within hours of her birth, she required transfer to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary where she could continue to receive the intensive care she needed and begin the long journey of growth and development due to her premature start in life.
She was transferred with the expertise of Embrace Children and Infant Transport Service This is the only accredited critical care transport team in the UK dedicated to the transportation of critically ill children and infants across South Yorkshire and Humberside. It is the only service of its kind in the whole of Europe, and the work they do is truly remarkable.
To show my gratitude to these incredible teams for their expertise in ensuring Eden and Amber made it safely through their surgery, myself and 3 friends, Ian, Ryan and Harvey, have set ourselves a challenge of completing 100 holes of golf in one single day in an effort to raise vital funds for the three teams who have, and continue to provide expert care of Eden:
- Leeds Neonatal Unit
- Embrace Infant and Childrens Transport Services
- Doncaster Neonatal Unit
We will be undertaking this challenge on Saturday 16th May 2026 at Thorne Golf Club in Doncaster. We have chosen this date in particular as it will mark 100 days since Eden’s birth. We estimate this is likely to take us approximately 14 hours and a walking distance of 16-21 miles, depending on how straight we hit the ball ! This will certainly be a challenge for us, but nothing compared to the challenge Eden has faced in her first 100 days.
I felt it would be a fitting way to celebrate the progress she has made so far, whilst raising money for the three units that played such a vital role in providing her with the care she so desperately needed.
We have been able to undertake this challenge with grateful thanks to the generosity of Edward Highfield, Head Professional and Club Manager at Thorne Golf Club. Edward has supported our efforts by allowing us to play the 100 holes free of charge which is hugely appreciated and we will look forward to generating some income for the club with a few drinks from the bar once we have completed the day !
We are hoping to make this a great day - with this challenge, we would welcome support from anybody who would like to walk the course with us, even for just one round. Likewise, we wouldn't say no if you fancy helping lighten the load by being a caddy for a round.
We will also have a few games and hopefully some light entertainment through out the day. I will keep this page updated as the plans progress.
Lastly, any donations towards our fundraising efforts would be very much appreciated. To make it worthwhile and to allow us to share the funds with the 3 named teams, we would ask if you could share this page far and wide.
Any support you may be able to offer towards this challenge would be greatly appreciated by all of our family. Prior to Eden’s arrival, we had very little knowledge of these services, but having witnessed first-hand experience and observing the life-saving work they do, it means an enormous amount to us to be able to give something back.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donations you feel you are able to give.
With very grateful thanks,
Dom, Amber, Elijah and Eden
