100 Hole Hike Benefitting the BOEC
Tax deductible
My 100 Hole Hike to raise funds for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center.
This June, I will take on the formidable challenge to play 100 holes of golf (walking) in one day to raise money and awareness for the BOEC.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the BOEC was forced to end the winter season early as well as cancel the summer season. As a result, I am aiming to raise funds to help ensure that the program is able to have a strong start again, whenever that may be.
This past winter I was a volunteer with the BOEC Adaptive Skiing Program. I had been around the program during previous seasons and was aware of it but had no idea how much it would personally impact me. Working with instructors and students out on the snow, watching them progress not only as skiers but as people, left a lasting impression on myself. Both my wife and I have a strong and dedicated love for what the BOEC has done and is continuing to do. With your support, I hope they can continue supporting participants for years to come.
Established in 1976, Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization, accredited by the Association of Experiential Education and the Professional Ski Instructors Association. BOEC is an active chapter of Disabled Sports USA and a promoter of Leave No Trace. BOEC is a certified and permitted operator on US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands and rivers.
Programs are offered throughout the year, including open enrollment courses for individuals and custom designed courses for groups, agencies and organizations. Winter activities include downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Summer activities include rock climbing, wilderness camping, rafting, canoeing, paddle boarding, adaptive cycling, team building initiatives and high and low ropes courses.
2020 marks the BOEC’s 44th year of proudly serving adults and children with a wide array of disabilities and special needs from throughout Colorado, the United States and 10 other countries. In the 2018-19 fiscal year, there were over 10,000 programming days in the Adaptive Ski & Snowboard, Wilderness, and Intern Programs reaching more than 2,700 individual participants.
The BOEC is comprised of three main programs:
Adaptive Ski Program – Accessible downhill and cross-country skiing and snowboarding based out of Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Ski Resorts.
Wilderness Program – Multi-day camps hosted at the 39-acre Breckenridge program site located at the base of Peak 9 in Summit County, Colorado. The site features modern lodge and cabin facilities, a sub-alpine lake and accessible hiking trails. Camps include accessible whitewater rafting, canoeing, camping, backpacking, snowshoeing, ropes courses, climbing wall, team initiatives and excursions to other beautiful parts of Colorado and Utah.
Internship Program – A full immersion training program allowing individuals to get a unique hands-on experience working every aspect of a world-renowned adaptive outdoor therapeutic recreation, and sports non-profit.
BOEC provides nearly $260,000 per year in scholarships for participants in financial need. These funds are donated by generous individuals, foundations, corporations and government agencies from around the country. In addition, general operating funds are raised through a series of special events and from a wide variety of donors to keep overall tuitions as low as possible.
BOEC’s greatest contributors and partners are Breckenridge Ski Resort, Keystone Ski Resort and the Town of Breckenridge. Without their support, operations at the BOEC would not be possible.
Pledges of any amount can be made towards each hole of golf I play. For example, if you pledge $1 per hole and I play 100 holes, that’s $100 to support BOEC! Flat amount donations will also be accepted and appreciated. I will be playing from sunup to sundown, walking 20+ miles and taking hundreds of swings, chips and putts. It will be a fun but challenging day and your support will help keep myself and the BOEC going!
Additionally, I pledge to personally donate $100 PLUS $5 for every birdie or better during the day.
Thank you for your support and generosity,
Zach Dobrota
