What if you knew $10 could feed 100 children???
Let me introduce you to the O'Brien School of the Maasai.
The O'Brien School for the Maasai is a community-based primary school located in Sanya Station Village of the Kilimanjaro Region in Northern Tanzania. Local Hinsdale resident, Kelly O'Brien and her daughter founded the school, after a visit to the area in 2006 to go on safari, climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and volunteer at a convent in Sanya Juu. While there, they asked the Sisters for any other projects they could help with. The Mother Superior at the time, Sister Dona, told them: "There is a Maasai man named Gabriel who keeps coming to us asking to help his village with a school." In 2007, the school became a reality.
The school is one of just a couple of primary schools in the area, covering a total population of over 5,000 individuals. By providing both an inexpensive, quality education and community development programs in Sanya Station, the O'Brien School for the Maasai offers the only educational and development opportunity for the majority of the village.
On behalf of the O'Brien School of the Maasai, we are raising funds to help feed the children of this school their breakfast. On Oct. 13th, a cargo trailer will be delivered to the O'Brien home in Hinsdale. We will fill it with school supplies, Feed My Starving children meal kits, shoes and clothing.
However, one of the biggest needs facing the school today is the lack of Costco 10lb sized Quaker Oatmeal boxes. Each feeds 100 children and employees of the school every day. There has not been a delivery to the school of supplies for 3 years, and currently they are out of food. Many of these children walk 2 hours+ to the school each day, each way and rely on this oatmeal in the morning to help them concentrate on their studies.
It's something so simple - yet so basic. For all our worldly gifts, we are never without a healthy breakfast - yet these children might go all day without a meal. Your $10 donation can change that. We need only $7500 to fill the container with enough oatmeal to feed 75,000 children.
We have only a short window to fill this urgent need - please give as you are able - $10 for 100 children's breakfasts will go a long way.
"We can do no great things, but only small things with great love." - Mother Teresa
