10 Days $7,500 ~ A Vet Truck for the Navajo Nation

Help Rez-Solutions and Animal Shelter (RSAS) purchase the veterinary truck they need to bring essential animal services to Navajo Nation Communities. ONLY $6,000 more is needed to secure this lifesaving vehicle! The truck has been made available by a retiring Colorado veterinarian. It's a 2002 Diesel Dodge Ram 2500, 4WD, 4 doors, 151,000 mi., automatic transmission, INCLUDING a Bowie classic 8 ft box refrigerator with live hot and cold water! A 4WD truck with this veterinary box would be a definite game-changer in reaching the more remote communities of the Navajo Nation, potentially helping anywhere from 400 to 800 animals per month. In addition, RSAS is the process of procuring a bumper pull 20-foot trailer to utilize as a mobile surgical unit in the same outlying communities. This truck would be capable of pulling that trailer!

Rez-Solutions and Animal Shelter, Inc (RSAS, Inc) is a non-profit formed in July of 2021 by Dr. Kelly Upshaw-Bia and the Navajo Nation Veterinary Program Team. They have been providing Spays/Neuters services through the Navajo Nation Veterinary Program Clinics, focusing on the Chinle and Tse Bonito Clinics. In addition, RSAS, Inc. has been providing Wellness Clinics to remote locations on the over 27,000 square miles Four Corners Region of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico that the Navajo Nation covers. Approximately 35% of the nearly 400,000 Navajo Nation residents have no internet or running water available. Neither do many residents have easy access to transportation, making it difficult to get their pets these vital veterinary services. Additionally, due to cultural and/or logistical complications, access to buildings to perform these mobile services is difficult. RSAS, Inc’s goal is to support rural communities by taking services to them.

RSAS, Inc. would like to have a variety of equipment to provide large and small animal primary care and spay/neuter surgeries to people of the Navajo Nation. Most notably, in communities at least 30 minutes or more away from local clinics, which is estimated to be 70% of the Navajo Nation. Some are up to 2 hours away from facilities with a Veterinarian.

My name is Dorian Macdonald. I volunteer with the Colorado animal rescue, RezDawg Rescue, Inc. (RDR). RDR not only works on vetting, transporting, and rehoming some of the thousands of animals roaming at large on the Navajo Nation annually, but we are also doing what we can to help lessen those numbers in the first place. Rez-Solutions has been kind enough to allow us to bring a team of volunteers to their clinic in Tse Bonito to help perform several spay/neuter/vaccination clinics over the past 2 years. We know this is a bandaid to an enormous issue. The best way we all can help is by supporting the local veterinary practitioners, who are boots on the ground every day in the trenches. They can do even more good work right there with the right tools! RSAS is very near and dear to our hearts! Please, let's get this truck for them! It would be immensely appreciated and make a huge difference in so many lives! The Colorado vet selling the truck is moving out of state by June 26th, so we must act fast before we miss the window of opportunity! We have just 10 days! THANK YOU!
