HELP ME TELL THE STORY OF 'THE THREE TPs'
On the 7th of September, 2019, I shall be bringing the story of 'The Three TPs' to Mullagh Town Hall.
This is an illustrated lecture in which I plan to tell the story of three remarkable McKennas of Mullagh and, in particular, their contribution to the cause of an independent Ireland.
From T.P. Snr. who masterminded Arthur Griffith's victory in the historic 1918 East Cavan Byelection to T.P. Jnr who became a dedicated Volunteer in Dublin and Cavan and rose to be a Colonel Commandant in the Irish National Army, and finally, the grandson, T.P. McKenna, the acclaimed actor who never forgot his roots and became a great ambassador for Ireland.
I'm especially pleased that I will be joined by one of Ireland's new musical stars, Meabh McKenna - harpist and vocalist.
A FREE GIFT TO MULLAGH
I'm keen that this evening will be a FREE gift to Mullagh and its people and an opportunity to add to this remarkable town's historic tapestry.
Inevitably though, there are costs associated with such a venture and I would really welcome your support in helping me fund it.
All donations, small or large (€5, €50 or €500) will make a great difference in helping to meet outgoings such as the fees for the use of the hall, lighting and sound equipment, staging and projection, travel and other expenses.
'A GALLANT SOLDIER - THE LIFE AND TIMES OF T.P. McKenna Jnr.'
In conjunction with this event we'd also welcome support in publishing this account of the short life of 'T.P. Jnr.' which will be launched on the night.
This will publish for the first time an account of a fine soldier of Ireland who saw active service in Dublin and Cavan and who would later rise to the rank of Colonel Commandant in the Irish National Army, but through the collapse of his health, he would find himself exiled to the Argentine where he died aged just 26.
The book will also contain a recently unearthed partial manuscript by T.P. ('A Soldier's Story') recounting exploits as a Volunteer in Dublin.
IRISH CANCER SOCIETY
We will also be fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society with a retiring collection on the evening and any surplus from the money we raise through your donations going to this most worthy cause.
PLEASE NOTE 'GO FUND ME' IS A FREE PLATFORM. THERE IS A TIP SYSTEM IN PLACE WHICH DEFAULTS TO 15% BUT YOU CAN REDUCE THAT TO LESS OR ZERO
