My parents' house backs up to a giant drainage ditch, which was supposed to handle the water volume. Unfortunately, it was clogged with debris. The four feet of standing water in the house receded quickly, but not before the damage was done. It ruined the walls, appliances, counter tops, floors, and furniture, and it totaled two cars in the driveway.
I woke to emergency responders about to kick in our front door, they had arrived on our front porch by boat to see if we needed to be evacuated. It was surreal. We've been in crisis mode just trying to do what needs to be done next, but now it is clear that my mom has not only lost her husband, which no amount can bring back, but the flood damage will likely cost north of $100,000, when all is said and done. For now, she's mainly staying with my brother Marvin, who wrote this sweet guest column about my Dad
(https://dailymemphian.com/article/5973/The-inheritance-is-unlimited-when-youre-rich-in-love). The column is about being rich in love, which my family surely is, but my mom needs monetary help. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you! -- Lance Stockwell
