UPDATE: “Thank you everyone who has donated, offered kind and supportive words and for sharing. They are currently in a hotel, awaiting more information.
Please feel free to contact either Alex or myself with questions regarding donations. Thank you again, so much for helping me get my family back on their feet. Love, Becca”
I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of Becca's family, she writes:
"My family was one of many that lost everything in the 'Camp Fire' in Northern CA. They were living in Paradise, which is nearly burned to the ground. Their home was lost including many beloved animal companions, memories and important medical and care-taking equipment.
My 20 year old sister has a rare mitochondrial condition that has severely limited her physical abilities but hasn't dimmed her drive or spirit. Despite being confined to either a specialized hospital bed or a specialized chair, she has helped my mom and sister form a home that was independently theirs. Our mother has a C-spine injury that limits her abilities as well, so my 26 year old sister has been been their primary caretaker for many years. She also has an young autistic son.
These women rarely ask for anything, often refusing help, insisting they are able to remain independent. So I am asking for help for them. Aside from the burden of starting anew, the cost of my sisters very necessary medical equipment is significant. Seeing as I live in Bend, I can only help so much.
At this moment the four of them are safe (along with their dogs, including the therapy dogs) but with nothing but the clothing on their backs and my sister's chair. Anything you are able to donate will go directly to them . I am also accepting donations of women's clothing along with clothing and other items for my 6 year old autistic nephew.
Thank you so much for helping me get my family on their feet as quickly as possible. I will update as I am able.
Love,
Becca Johnston"
