‘An Artful Recovery for Dan’
Dear Friends, Family, Colleagues and lovely people I’ve never met. My little family of three, Dan, China (yes, she’s our dog) and I are about to embark on a journey similar to one we took just over a year ago.

Just over a year ago Dan had major surgery to remove his large intestine. This was due to a tumour and a large number of polyps that were found in the intestine. Chemotherapy was administered for three months after he’d recovered from surgery.
A year later, to this day as I started typing this letter on the 22nd October, Dan was lucky to be able to have another growth removed from his liver (another major surgery). He was lucky as it was detected in the follow up scans so it has been found early. He has been unable to work since the operation as it’s a couple of months as the liver recovers.

Dan’s surgery was successful, but now he needs follow up therapy to ensure his body stays cancer free. This treatment will start just before Christmas on the 19th December. As the cancer was in his liver and this is his the second occurrence he will be undergoing six months of chemotherapy to be administered every two weeks intravenously at the Bright Centre, then a slow drip for three days whilst at home. Last time his treatment caused peripheral neuropathy (weakness, numbness and pain) which was debilitating.
I am Dan’s partner Jolie, of which of course those of you who know us already know :). I make my living teaching yoga and selling my artwork. Dan works as a Chef. He has income insurance however we were unaware that over the age of 55 his insurance didn’t cover him for illness (only injury).
To support Dan's healthful recovery I wish to gift some of my original framed art work to assist in my parter Dans’ recovery in return for funds gratefully given.

We would use the funds to assist in our living costs, plus treatments to abate the side effects of the chemotherapy (of which the list is many) and medicines that need to be purchased alongside of those that are supplied. I will be working and when home, I’ll be there to care for Dan – taking him to appointments and trying to limit his need to go out and about as his immune system will be severely compromised. The list goes on… Having 6 months of chemotherapy will make the peripheral neuropathy more debilitating and it is impossible for Dan to be on his feet for long periods of time (quite uncommon to see a chef sitting) He’s most likely still able to give orders around the kitchen (chemo doesn’t seem to affect that ;) so I will be well instructed. I really encourage those who have income insurance to check their cover as it’s the last thing you need to be thinking about at a time like this.
About my Artwork
My Mandalas are all hand drawn original artwork, ink on paper with no stencils/templates used. I had a solo exhibition in 2016 and have sold most of the works from that collection. I’m wishing to use my artwork to help contribute to Dan’s recovery and give away artwork from a blue and coloured range of Mandalas I have created since the exhibition in 2016. They are beautifully bespoke framed, and each Mandala takes over 60 hours to complete. The artwork can be sent within Australia and for anyone who donates from OS I can send limited edition Giclee prints.

Not everyone has funds to buy an original artwork as they sell for between $1800-$3000. So I have decided I wish to gift one artwork for every $3000 donated with anyone who has donated included in the random draw - everyone is included no matter how much you contributed to Dan’s recovery.

We thank you for caring for us
