Hello! I am very excited to be participating in the 2026 Tokyo Marathon and helping support Peace Winds Japan along the way! Peace Winds is a global organization that serves humanitarian causes on the front lines of natural disasters and social issues, and sponsors humanitarian projects world wide, including in Japan.

The organization's "Peace Wanko" project supports the rescue of stray dogs who are destined to be euthanized, while also training them with the help of professional handlers and finding them new homes. Since starting the “Peace Wanko” (Wanko means puppy in Japanese) project to protect stray pets over a decade ago, PWJ has saved the lives of more than 6,000 animals that otherwise would have been euthanized.

Donations to my run go directly towards Peace Wind's Wanko Japan vital programs that promote dog welfare and the positive impact that dogs have as part of loving homes and society as a whole.

My Connection to the Cause

My connection to animal protection and care began at an early age. As a young girl, I spent summers at my grandmother’s house, affectionately known as “the farm.” After immigrating to the US, my grandparents began careers in veterinary medicine. My grandfather, who sadly passed before I was born, dedicated his life to healing animals. Together, they built a veterinary clinic in Maryland that served the community for over 30 years.

I grew up hearing stories of the animals they rescued, like a three-legged terrier found on the street, and a litter of abandoned kittens. At times, their home sheltered over ten animals, each given the love and care they needed to recover and thrive.

Today, I carry that same love for animals. When I adopted my rescue dog, Daisy, it was during one of the hardest times in my life. She has brought me immeasurable joy and healing. Her presence reminds me daily of the powerful bond between animals and humans, and of the legacy my grandfather left behind.

Running the Tokyo Marathon has long been a dream of mine. To do so in honor of my grandparents, and in support of vulnerable animals, is the greatest privilege!
