Please help save Sadie’s life!!!

Hello, my name is Terra. My family and I are trying to raise money to help our beloved dog Sadie.

Sadie is a 5 year old Shetland Sheepdog whom loves to cuddle, play, and eat treats. Sadie was a completely healthy dog living her day to day life, when I suddenly noticed she was straining to urinate. If you have ever seen a dog do this, a few things come to mind as to what it could be. Stones, or infection would be the most common causes. We took Sadie in and after an ultrasound to check for stones, a culture and a urinalysis, it was determined she had an infection and was sent home with amoxicillin which is an antibiotic.

About a week later, I noticed Sadie was still having the same issue and was struggling to urinate. This time, she looked much more uncomfortable and you could tell she was in pain.

That same evening I brought her into our veterinarians office which has a 24 hour emergency center. They did blood testing, another ultrasound, another urinalysis and an X-ray. At this point, we were able to see on the X-ray that Sadie’s bladder was enlarged to two to three times the size of what it should have been.
Sadie had to have a catheter placed to release the urine and get her bladder back to normal size. At this point, Doctor’s were perplexed and wanted to do further testing to see if that would lead to any results/diagnosis.

Sadie stayed in emergency from the evening of 4/5 to 4/8 four days in total. We paid for a specialist to do another ultrasound to see if they had missed anything. There were no masses (cancer), stones, or anything of that nature. Sadie was on several medications at this point one of which helped with inflammation which was a suspected cause. Other options were a stone they couldn’t see in the pelvis region, or a neurological issue. In short, they didn’t know what was wrong with Sadie.
At this point we had to discharge her as our bill was over $3,000 and we couldn’t afford for it to get any higher. My family and I were at a loss. We brought her home in hopes that she would be able to urinate with the help of her medication and giving her that time for her bladder to calm back down after being in emergency for 4 days.
Sadie was still unable to urinate after over 24 hours of having her home. We were so worried, but Sadie was not phased and acted like her usual happy self. She was eating well, drinking well, and took her meds wonderfully. But none of this mattered because she wasn’t able to pee.
The clock was ticking. I called the vet back knowing we didn’t have anymore money to spend, and she said she would discount putting a catheter back in Sadie. We paid to have this done even though it seemed hopeless. Suddenly we received a call with somewhat good news. The doctor put Sadie under to put the catheter in and all the sudden urine went everywhere. It was described to us as “a flood”. The specialist and doctor decided to send Sadie home without the catheter to give her one more chance to go on her own. This was on 4/9.
We had some hope, but after getting Sadie home, she had had plenty of food and water and was still unable to go.

The current situation is that Sadie went back to the vet today 4/9 and had a catheter placed again. We will have the catheter in at home (it comes out 4/16) to give the meds she’s on a chance to work. If this doesn’t work, we will have to put our beautiful, sweet girl to sleep.
We have one other unexplored option. Our vet would like us to go to UC Davis to see the specialists there. They have better equipment, and this could result in a possible solution for Sadie.

Sadie is my best friend, I love her so much. If I felt it was her time to go, I would let her go with a heavy heart. Sadie hasn’t lived even half her lifespan. She is so vibrant and full of life.
Please consider donating to get Sadie more treatment and to aid us in her expenses. As a family, we have already spent money we didn’t have trying to save our girl. Any small amount would help. If you are unable to donate, I ask that you share this so that it can reach as many people as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering donating.
