My name is Venera Bakirova. I am reaching out to you with a desperate plea for help!
On February 27, 2026, our lives changed forever. My husband Bekmukhan Tastanbekov, was suddenly admitted to the intensive care unit at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago after suffering a stroke.
It was a tremendous shock and an ordeal we never expected to face.
He remained in the rehabilitation center at the same hospital until the end of March. Now he is home, but his condition is still far from satisfactory. He does not remember how he ended up in the hospital. He is learning to walk and speak again, and trying to restore his memory. Despite everything, while he was in the hospital, Bekmukhan kept saying he wanted to return home as soon as possible and go back to work. He doesn’t yet understand that he can’t work right now- and cannot even walk on his own without assistance.
Today, each day is filled with care, anxiety, and hope for his recovery.
Our whole family is supporting him, trying not to lose faith, and doing everything possible to help him return to a normal life.
Every day, I drive my husband to the hospital for rehabilitation procedures.
According to preliminary information from the doctors, the recovery period under hospital supervision may last at least 9 to 12 months. A long path of treatment and rehabilitation lies ahead.
Baced on initial estimates, we need approximately $120,000. The hospital bills keep coming. We are struggling to cover:
- medical expenses ( what insurance does not pay for),
- medication,
- caregiving,
- transportation, and rent - so we are not evicted and can provide everything he needs for recovery.
These costs have become an unbearable burden for our family, and we are forced to ask for help. Right now, I am torn between my husband in the hospital and our children at home. Without support, we cannot overcome this trial, as each day brings new expenses and difficulties.
My husband has always been a person who supported others and helped those around him. Now we are the ones in need of support, and we are counting on people’s kindness and compassion. From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely ask you to respond and support us in this difficult time. Any amount will be gratefully received by our hearts! Your support will give us the strength and hope to get through this trial and bring my husband back to a full life.
