I’m reaching out in hopes of being able to help a very close and dear friend of mine. Anelise is a beautiful person with the most gracious and kind soul. She and her family have gone through so much devastation and heartbreak and she has found herself as the sole-caretaker for her family. She is in dire need of financial assistance in order to continue caring for her brother and sister serious medical needs in Brazil. Please read their story below and feel free to reach out with any questions! Thank you!
I met Anelise on one of my trips to Brasil where my extended family lives. At the time, Anelise lived with her mother, Dona Marisa, her sister Ana Claudia and her brother, Luis Paolo. They have always been an extremely close and united family ever since I first met them.
Anelise, her siblings and her mother welcomed me into their home as if I were family. I remember watching how they interacted and spoke to each other and it was so beautiful and wholesome. I loved it. I felt so welcomed and so cared for and loved and I knew I had made a forever-friendship with them.
You wouldn’t know it by just looking at them, but the struggles this family has faced has been immense. To begin, Anelise’s father passed away having lost his battle with leukemia leaving Dona Marisa widowed. Struggling with health problems of her own, Dona Marisa took the reins and took care of the family. Soon after, Anelise’s sister, Ana Claudia, was diagnosed with severe schizophrenia. Her mental health declined significantly to the point of needing to be hospitalized and receive inpatient treatment for months.
Dona Marisa did everything possible for her children all while struggling with health concerns of her own. Sadly, and very unexpectedly, Anelise’s best friend, her mother, Dona Marisa, passed away in 2018.
With no time at all to grieve the death of their mother, Anelise and Luis Paulo had to jump in and start doing everything in their power to take care of their older sister Ana Claudia. As a result of Dona Marisa’s passing, Ana Claudia’s mental state severely declined prompting the need for hospitalization and inpatient treatment again.
As the Covid-19 pandemic spread throughout the world, Ana Claudia attempted suicide. This prompted even more hospitalization and further inpatient treatment.
Thankfully, there was a glimmer of happiness for Anelise with her graduation from college coming up! She worked so hard and didn’t give up through all the tragedies that occurred in her life. This was a major milestone for her! This glimmer of happiness was sadly short-lived as she received more unfortunate news. Her little brother, Luis Paulo, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer. Anelise, the middle child, was left as the sole caretaker for both her older sister and younger brother. Both with extremely scary and life-threatening diseases to fight against.
With the news of Luis Paulos cancer diagnosis, extreme measures needed to be taken due to Covid-19 running rampant in Brazil and taking many lives. With Ana Claudia back in inpatient treatment for her schizophrenia, Anelise and Luis Paulo had no choice but to temporarily move to another state in Brazil for his cancer treatments.
In a completely unknown city during Covid, Anelise and Luis Paulo made the trek to and from the hospital for treatments every single day. After ongoing treatment, and two longer-term hospitalizations later, Luis Paulo received a bone marrow transplant. This transplant, while horribly painful, finally allowed Luis Paulo to go back home to Rio de Janeiro.
Back at home in Rio, Anelise sought therapy for all the unimaginable and heartbreaking events that flooded her life in such a short amount of time. Not long after beginning therapy, Anelise was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nonetheless, she had absolutely no time to pay too much attention to her new diagnosis. She needed and was determined to take care of her older sister with severe schizophrenia and her younger brother with cancer.
In 2023, Ana Claudia attempted suicide twice as a result of her Schizophrenia and Luis Paulo continued to struggle with his cancer diagnosis snd the poor prognosis that comes with it. This internal struggle caused Luis Paulo to develop bipolar disorder. His mental health decline was so severe and so fast, that Anelise was forced to admit him into psychiatric inpatient treatment for his own safety.
While receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment for bipolar disorder as well as ongoing treatments for his cancer, Luis Paulo caught Covid and was forced to be hospitalized. Luis Paulo remained hospitalized with intensive round-the-clock care and treatment for 25 days. The entire time, every single day, 24/7, Anelise was by his side, supporting him. In turn, Anelise also caught the Covid-19 virus which left her feeling miserable. Anelise struggled with Covid affecting her own health but was absolutely determined in continuing to take care her little brother and older sister.
♦️ Anelise continues to be the sole-caretaker for both her brother Luis Paulo and her sister Ana Claudia. She is unable to work full time since cannot leave her brother and sister alone at home due to how severely sick they both are and how much attention and care they both need. Anelise is unable to hire outside caretakers as she doesn’t have the financial means for it. She continues to do everything on her own and is struggling. After losing both of her parents, her brother being diagnosed with cancer and bipolar disorder, as well as her sister having debilitating schizophrenia, Anelise has no where to turn for help. The bills are piling up and she doesn’t know what else to do. She cannot afford even basic necessities for herself as everything is going towards caring for her siblings.
I am desperately trying to raise funds to help their beautiful family. There is no doubt in my heart and soul that Anelise and her family are beyond deserving of a small miracle. I have been so touched by their selfless, loving, and giving nature over the years. They have NEVER hesitated to offer help or support towards me or my own family.
