My name is Elena, and I am a mother of two boys, aged 18 and 7. This year, I will turn 40, but instead of celebrating, I am facing the biggest challenge of my life. In early March 2026, I was diagnosed with invasive carcinoma of the left breast with metastases to the left axillary lymph nodes. My journey ahead is long and difficult: I am starting chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy, and eventually radiation therapy. My children and I moved here from Ukraine in 2022. Being relatively new to the country, I haven't had the chance to build up savings for an emergency like this. For the past year and a half, I worked as a baker at Whole Foods, a job I truly enjoyed, but my declining health has forced me to stop working. I am now in a position where I must ask for help.
