Anna was working in her dream job as an OR nurse in Maryland when something didn't feel right. The loneliness and stress of working on the frontlines of the pandemic was getting to her. And a couple months earlier, she had felt a lump in her breast.

She had been told by a Nurse Practitioner that the lump felt like a harmless fibroid, but as the lump started to grow, Anna started to realize that something was very wrong.

Realizing that she needed more support, Anna made the heart-wrenching decision to move back to South Carolina in order to be closer to friends and family. She quickly received two job offers and Anna's future looked bright. But she could see a dark cloud on the horizon. Anna could feel that the lump in her breast had grown larger and knew she had to take care of her own health and sign up for a mammogram.

The mammogram led to a biopsy which led to a diagnosis in March of 2021. Anna's lump was not just a harmless fibroid. Anna had Stage 2, Grade 3, invasive ductal carcinoma. To top it off, she was told it was a highly aggressive form of breast cancer termed "triple negative" that does not respond to common targeted therapies. Anna was told she would need to start treatment as soon as possible.

Immediately following her diagnosis, Anna met with a high risk breast cancer surgeon who outlined a treatment plan including chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Anna has a long road ahead of her, but she is now under the care of a fantastic team specializing in breast cancer treatment.

Unfortunately, care this specialized comes at a price. Every appointment has a cost. Every scan has a cost. Every procedure and treatment and surgery has a cost. These are costs that Anna was not prepared for. That she could not have been prepared for.

While Anna has accepted a new position as an OR nurse at a surgery center, she has not yet been onboarded and is facing uncertainty regarding her ability to continue working during treatment. She does not yet have employer insurance or benefits.

As one of Anna’s best friends and former nursing school classmates, I am asking for help on her behalf! NO OFFERING IS TOO SMALL. If every person seeing this story contributed $3, Anna could likely cover the thousands of dollars in payments she has already paid to date out of pocket.

Anna is pulling out all the stops and taking advantage of every resource she can, but she STILL needs your support! All donations will go directly to Anna to help her pay down her out of pocket costs!

We are so incredibly grateful for all of your prayers, encouragement, and contributions!
