Eyes & Ears
Donation protected
Hi!
I am a 24 year cancer survivor. I am legally blind in my right eye and the vision in my left eye isn't so good without glasses. I need bifocals to read but the glasses I have are very old and are not strong enough. I use reading glasses but they don't help to see things far away, to drive, or any of those things and those are the most important things I need to see.
I am also hearing impaired in both ears because of the chemotherapy received during my cancer days. I have no hearing left at all in my right eye and I only have 20% left in my left ear which is sustained by a hearing aid. Without the hearing aid all I can do is read lips and even that is a strain because I don't have glasses to be able to see the lips I am reading - lol.
I have one hearing aid but it is an older one that has a lot of problems electronically and to fix it would be more than to just buy a new one. It turns on and off at random, drops in sound, crackles, whistles, and all kinds of crazy things. I tolerate it because I am so grateful just to hear at all but it would be really nice to have one that is efficient and that I can actually hear well out of at a decent volume level.
My insurance doesn't cover hearing aids or glasses. I don't like to ask for help for myself but this time I am sort of stuck in a bind. The organizations that help with these sort of things do not have available funding so I am in need of all the help I can get. Would you be willing to donate even just $5 to help me get a pair of glasses and a hearing aid? I only want one hearing aid because getting one in the other ear is pointless if there's no hearing in it. One hearing aid these days costs about $1,300; the appointment for the eye doctor is $60 at Walmart and the glasses start at anywhere from $175 to $350 depending on what the doctor recommends.
Every little bit helps and I would be in great gratitude. I try not to ask for anything but I am having a lot of trouble seeing and hearing; those two things are the only thing I have left for myself in independence so I am afraid of losing them. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
