A Friend in Need....

Our dear old friend, Beverly Lebr Moody, is in dire need of our generosity. 

Bev is a veteran of the US Navy, a longtime Conroe resident, and a proud member of the 1976 Bicentenniel class of Conroe High School.  In her military service she served on the front lines, and for a period of years she has continued to serve as a civilian, working for the Department of Defense.  During her employment she was assigned to work in Afghanistan, and has been sent there 9 times, including a stint during Operation Enduring Freedom.  Bev is proud of her skills with an M16, and has thrown over 200 hand grenades.

We have all experienced great highs and lows in our lives, and Bev is no exception.  She is very proud of her service to our country, and considers this to be a great achievement.   Sadly, she has now fallen upon the hardest of hard times, living through a series of events that would cause Job himself to exclaim, "Are you serious?!  That too?!"

While overseas on her last, and final trip, the unthinkable happened.  Bev left vital documents and financial information with those she deemed closest to her.  Afghanistan is a dangerous place for anyone, and more so for an American woman, so in the event of her death or some other emergency, she felt her loved ones would need to access her accounts. 

And access they did, indeed.

Bev's term with the Department of Defense concluded, she returned to the US to find that those she most trusted had relieved her of her funds.  Thus began a series of disasters, one domino falling on the next. 

Currently Bev is in Virginia Beach, VA, living in her car, as all the local shelters are full.  This car needs extensive repairs, so she is on foot.  Churches provide her with meals that Bev warms in a convenience store microwave.  She is dealing with a chronic, and embarrassing health issue, and is panhandling to have the immediate cash she needs for necessary hygienic supplies.   Also , when Bev last went to the Middle East she stored all her personal belongings, but the lot was auctioned when she was unable to pay the monthly fee.

In a similar situation you or I would most likely go to our loved ones for help, but needless to say, in this situation that is not an option.  As you would certainly expect, there is currently no relationship between Bev and those who betrayed her.

So it falls upon us, fellow Tigers, Conroe citizens, former military, and others who, like Bev,  are generous and caring, to be her soft place to fall.

It is vital that we don't delay in accomplishing several things:
1) Arrange for her shelter and safety,
2) Repair her car (iF FEASIBLE, considering the extent of the repairs),
3) Get her back on the road to health, and
4) Arrange for her return to Texas, where she has more job opportunities, and already an offer of a roof over her head.
Any remaining funds donated would be put towards beginning to replace necessary items that were lost to the auction.

A local account has been established, and donations will be administered by two fellow '76 Conroe Tigers, Georgette Whatley and Mimi Devereaux.   Your donation is safe with us, and disbursements will be carefully monitored. 

Bev has always been kind and giving, and there are those who have benefitted from her  generosity at some point, and were completely unaware that she was the source.  It's time we returned the favor.
