Engineers Without Borders is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization established to support community-driven development programs worldwide through partnerships that design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences that enrich global perspectives and create responsible leaders.

Engineers Without Borders- Howard University, the only HBCU chapter in the nation, is a non-profit, student led organization that facilitates sustainable engineering projects in underdeveloped communities worldwide. Our chapter focuses on water supply and sanitation. Currently, we are working on 2 projects, one in Kenya and the other in El Salvador.


In Kenya, our program focuses on filtering harmful bacteria such as E-Coli and Cholera from the community water source by implementation of bio-sand filters.

In El Salvador, our students are working toward enhancing the standard of living within the community of Agua Caliente through the implementation water purification systems. Our aim is to reduce the levels of fluoride from their community's water source.

Much of the financial burden of developing technological solutions in these communities falls solely on EWB-HU. To gain funds, students have worked diligently to seek support from coorporations as well as Howard University's College of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Sciences. 

We are respectfully requesting your support in undertaking the design and implementation of these and future projects. Organizing and executing these projects not only aids communities to meet their basic needs, but it also strengthens the members of EWB-HU as global citizens, student leaders, and human activists. We hope that you will see the vast impact on Howard University and the global communities our organization has, and that you will support us on this fantastic journey to exemplifying our school's motto of "Truth and Service".
