Guatemala Volunteer Trip

My name is Evin Leek and I live in Wilmington, NC. On January 18th I am flying to Guatemala, where I will volunteer with an elder center and a local preschool and primary schools. This will be my third volunteer trip, the first being in 2011 and the second in 2013. I'm asking for your help to be able to make as big a difference as possible during my trip.
Guatemala is a third world country, and has the highest malnutrition rate in Latin America and the fourth highest in the world.
The money raised will go toward helping improve the quality of life for individuals and families suffering from poverty and hunger in the village of Santiago Atitlán. The money will go toward much needed food, medicine and healthcare for these families. Funds will also go toward supplies to help improve local schools.
The Centro de Ancianos' (elder center) mission is to provide food, medicine and assistance to the local elderly. The center is partially funded by an organization called Sharing the Dream.
The majority of the patrons of the Centro de Ancianos are widows of the Guatemalan civil war. Millions of Guatemalans were killed, abused and displaced during the civil war (1960-1996).
Guatemala has also been subject to a variety of natural disasters that have caused widespread destruction. In the aftermath, many of the elders no longer have familes to care for them. With the lack of healthcare, malnutrition and unstable living conditions, many struggle to make ends meet on their own.
As a photographer and artist, my passion for painting stemmed from my time volunteering in Guatemala. My "Ancianas" series can be viewed at

A portion of the profits from the sale of my paintings will go to the elder center and the subjects of my paintings and their families.
