Auburn's Favorite Ice Cream Man

Alfa Suleiman, better known as The Ice Cream Man is loved by so many children and parents here in Auburn.  He spreads joy everywhere he goes in that old grey van that plays "Do Your Ears Hang Low"  He's always got a smile and I believe he gives away a lot more ice cream than he sells.  This is our chance to show him how much we all care about him.

Alfa was working as a gas station clerk this week and was robbed at gun point and shot in the back 5 times.   Alfa almost died and was life flighted to the hospital in Columbus.  Thankfully he was shot in his shoulders and not in any vital organs but he will not be able to use his arms fullly for a while.

Alfa has lived in Auburn ever since he came here from Nigeria in the 80's to go to college.  His wife worked for Auburn City Schools for many years.  Alfa has loved Auburn and contributed to the common good in this town for so many years.    I hope that anyone who has ever bought (or been given) an ice cream from Alfa will contribute to this campaign.  He has a heart as of gold and a smile that lights up the neighborhood.

Hoping everyone who has donated to Alfa will remember him over the holiday. His physical well being is improving every day. He has a lot more use of his arms, one more than the other. He isn't driving yet but I know he hopes he will be by spring. Please remember him in your Christmas giving this season. He has been out of work for a while now.

The Grove Hill Neighborhood held a bake sale for Mr. Alfa and raised close to $1000. The kids went to Alfa's house to take him the money and more get well cards. He was so happy to see them and opened up his ice cream truck to them all....We still have a long way to go on our goal. Please share this Go Fund Me page if you haven't already and lets get closer to our goal.

Alfa is doing well but still has some numbness in his hands. It will be a while before he can work again.

Wheeler and I are going to see Alfa tomorrow. I am so appreciative of the financial support that has come through so far. If any of you can please share this campaign to your facebook or Twitter page it would really help. I feel like most (not all but most) of the donations have been from friends of mine (which means a lot). I still feel like their are other neighborhoods and people around town that do not know this happened to Alfa. Also, please don't just share the link, write a little blurb that will engage people and make them want to click on the link and at least read the story. Thanks so much! I'll let yall know how he is doing tomorrow afternoon.

I went to see Alfa yesterday. He is doing well. He is at home and able to do a lot. He has rods and pins in his shoulders but should be able to use them fully eventually.

Did you know that Alfa has been the ice cream man in Auburn for over 25 years. There are lots of people out there who know him and love him. Please be sure they know about what happened to him and about this Go Fund Me Page.
Can't wait to see this sight again.
