Meet Samuel Kalel Green!
Samuel joined us on June 14, 2016.
Due to his unanticipated early arrival, and due to having some unexpected developmental complications, his first days of life have been a whirlwind, to say the least.
Samuel unexpectedly joined the world two months premature and immediately required care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Day two of his life, Samuel was diagnosed with birth defects of his rectum. Because of the seriousness of his diagnosis urgent treatment was necessary.
Samuel was emergently transported to Renown and underwent emergency surgery on day two of his life.
Thankfully, Samuel’s first intense surgery went well and he has proven to be a determined little fighter. Do to his condition Samuel will require at lest two additional surgeries over the course of a year for his lower intestinal issues.
On day three Samuel was weaned off the ventilator and began breathing on his own. This was extremely encouraging for his parents, Jarell and Brittnee, and all family and friends that love him so dearly.
Over the past week Samuel has been struggling to tolerate any of his feedings and continues to throw them back up. Because of this, Samuel’s medical team has continued to order more diagnostics to try and identify the cause of Samuel’s intolerance of feedings. Samuel’s medical team diagnosed Samuel with intestinal atresia which was preventing any of his mom's milk to enter the small intestine for digestion and absorption due to a birt defect which required Samuel to have his second extensive surgery in addition to the one for his rectal area.
Unfortunately, Samuel will remain in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the months to come as he continues to develop and grow. He will also need to undergo follow-up surgeries for his rectal defects.
Due to his unexpected early arrival, his emergency transport, his intensive surgeries, time spent in the NICU, and developmental follow up monitoring in the months ahead with specialty doctors, there are significant medical costs for Jarell and Brittnee. Even with medical insurance helping some, the out-of-pocket expenses will be extremely expensive.
This is why Samuel’s family and friends are coming together to help the Green Family put a major dent in the medical bills.
