Evelyn's Medical Fund

Donation protected
My cousin Brittany and her husband Loren were ecstatic when they found out they were pregnant with Evelyn! Getting her here has been quite the journey, and very expensive.

Evelyn was born at 30 weeks and has been in the Nicu since she arrived. Evelyn not only has clubfeet, but also amniotic band syndrome, which caused her to have two short fused fingers on her left hand, and one that may need to be amputated. She also had aplasia cutis congenita on her head, which is a genetic defect which caused part of her scalp to not grow together. Once Evelyn is out of the NICU, the family will have $10K+ in medical bills.

Please help these wonderful new parents so they do not have to worry about medical bills while their sweet little baby is still in the hospital.

Evelyn's Birth Story:

Brittany went to the hospital on January 12 because of some concerns (around 8PM). Once they arrived she had an exam and was told her water broke. She was given a steroid shot for the baby's lungs in case Evelyn came that night. She was transferred by ambulance to IMC in Murray where they have a NICU equipped to handle a baby born at 27 weeks.

She was taken to Labor and Delivery, and wasn't allowed to eat all night long, in preparation for a possible C-section. After it was determined the baby wasn’t coming that night, Brittany was taken up to the second floor where moms generally are post delivery, or those who are on bedrest. This is where she stayed until February 1st. She was on strict bedrest. Brittany had to leave her teaching job for the school year a lot earlier than expected becuase of her bedrest.

On Sunday, January 31st, she started having contractions around 7PM. They started to get more painful after about a half hour. The baby was doing fine, but since the contractions were getting worse, they sent her down to Labor and Delivery.

Brittany was given pain medicine for the contractions, as well as fluids to help keep the baby in. Around 1:30AM Brittany was not dilated. About 2:00, she was suddenly at 4 centimeters. About 10-15 minutes later, the doctor came to check again, and she was at 7 centimeters.

At this point they started prepping an operating room for an emergency C-section. The epidural wasn't working quickly enough, and so they decided to put her under. Loren was removed from the room at this point. An on call doctor and resident performed the very quick operation, and Evelyn arrived at 3:16 AM at 3lb, 3oz and barely 30 weeks old. Evelyn went right from the O.R. to the NICU. The first thing Brittany said to Loren when she woke up was, "Is she okay?". She got to hold her hand for just a moment before she was wheeled back upstairs to recover.

Later, the doctors told Brittany and Loren that Evelyn not only had clubfeet, but also amniotic band syndrome, which caused her to have two short fused fingers on her left hand, and one that may need to be amputated. She also had aplasia cutis congenita on her head, which is a genetic defect which caused part of her scalp to not grow together.

Brittany is recovering well from surgery, and Evelyn is growing! Evelyn will likely be in the NICU for many more weeks and will need surgery and/or corrective casts for her clubfeet. She might also need amputation for one finger and plastic surgery for her fused fingers.
