Evan was larger than life, in both personality and stature. Wherever he went, he made a friend. Whoever was his friend, was a friend for life. His heart was big, and he was always looking to share love and laughs, whether it be with family, friends, or complete strangers. He had a passion for baseball. He loved the game, but loved the people more. While with his teammates, on the field, he was truly alive.

On Thursday, April 27th, Evan came home and spent his evening like any other. He ate dinner with family, did the dishes, and said he was going to take a shower and go to bed. He started the water, but never made it in.

Evan's heart stopped that night. He was found on the bathroom floor by his father, who administered CPR, and emergency services were called. Evan arrived at the Flagstaff Medical Center in a coma. On Saturday, April 29th, Evan was pronounced legally dead by brain. The doctors still do not know what caused Evan's heart to stop. There were no substances found in his system, and when he was brought to the hospital he was considered perfectly healthy, except for swelling in the brain.

This was a complete and utter shock. No one expects a healthy 17 year old to pass so quickly and suddenly. Evan had a bright future that he was very much looking forward to. He was going to finish out his baseball season at Flagstaff High School strong, and then head off to George Fox University in the fall. He was going to continue his love of baseball with the George Fox University team. He was looking toward the future with a positive outlook and attitude.

The hole Evan left behind is dark and all consuming. Where there was light and laughter, there is now only grief. The happy memories of time spent with Evan are numerous, but no more new ones will be made. This is not something that anyone should have to go through, Evan was kind and loving. He did not deserve this.

Since Evan's passing was as sudden as it was, we as Evan's family were not prepared for the financial hardship that has followed. There are medical, funeral, and memorial service bills that are coming in that are more than what our family can manage. Any donation toward this GoFundMe will go toward these bills so that our family can greive without extra worry.
