Those who have ever met Eugene Efuni will say, "He is a Prince among men"... I couldn't agree more! So full of life... so full of wonder... so full of knowledge and warmth... He is loved and adored by all! Today, he is fighting for his life after a horrific New Year's morning accident in Los Angeles with three of his girlfriends that were visiting from the Ukraine; Liza, Natasha and Inga. All four are lucky to be alive, but are all in various conditions at the time. Eugene is stil unconscious, having undergone multiple surgeries, but is seemingly putting up a big fight! Liza has broken everything from head to toe, but she is conscious as she prepares to go on the operating table again and again in the coming days. Natasha has regained consciousness today and is lucid, but her fight is just begining. Inga also awoke today and is doing better, but as with them all - it's a very long road ahead.

This Campaign is aimed at easing some immedaite expenses for Eugene, his distraught parents and family, as well as the  3 girls and their families, some of whom are currently on the way to Los Angeles from Ukraine.  We are talking every day necessities that need to be taken care of while they remain in this condition. I have made Eugene's brother Sergey the benefitiary and together we will help ease this time for Eugene's family and those of the girls.

I thank all of our friends in advance for contributing. Please share this with others and incourage them to donate as well. This story had a global inpact on so many people...

Here are some stories about this horrific accident and the subsequent news coverage from around the world.

May this be a lesson to us all! This could have been any one of us in that Uber on that fateful morning. Next time someone you know tries to get behind the wheel drunk... remind them of this...

Thank you all for your help!

Hello Everyone!

So, as some of you may have been seeing updates from Eugene's other friends, I just wanted to post a follow-up here and let everyone know that there is a God and that Zhenya is starting to come back to us! Yes, he is making great progress, and his personality and life is flowing back into him, sense of humor and all. Not to say that there is not a lot of work ahead, both with physical therapy and to treat his brain injury, but seeing him the past few days has truly made me smile. He remembers a lot more, understands what happened to him, is trying desperately to get out of the hospital so that he can continue recovery at home around family and books. I can have full on conversations with him where 90% of things are understood, both in Russian and English... He insists that he will make a full recovery and soon and can't wait to get back to work on all of his projects. He sends everyone his warmest regards and thanks, but wishes to start communicating with all of you directly when he gets just a bit better and is more comfortable at home. Thanks again for all of your prayers, well-wishes and support! We all greatly appreciate it!

Warmest regards,

Hello friends!

Here is an update on Zhenya...

I just went to visit him in the Hospital and he is doing a lot better! Better in the sense that now he is able to sit upright and spend time outside of his bed (which is a great start to his rehabilitation process still to come), talking all the time and moving on his left side more and more, although still far from where it will need to be. There is lots of work ahead, but the good news is that every day there is a slight improvement. The highlight of my day was taking him outside today. We spent a good half-hour hanging out in the sun and flipping through pictures on my phone. I left him to take a nap after a very active day, but he was in good spirits.

It's still hard to say what he does and does not remember. I am not certain if he remembers me or if he just remembers of me, but I will say that he still has his charming sense of humor, which gives me the most hope.

One note, due to a new policy, visiting Eugene will only be possible with the advanced permission from the immediate family. So if you are planning on going to say hi, please contact one of the family members first. We appreciate everyone's prayers and continued support... I will say it again, there is a beautiful bright light at the end of the tunnel, but the road to get there is just starting. In short, thank you all again and please keep this campaign going by sharing.

Thank you!

Hello Friends!
Thanks again to everyone for your continued support. Know that Zhenya's family and friends tremendously appreciate it!

I saw Eugene yesterday for the first time since he regained consciousness and I must say that it was a bitter sweet experience. On one hand - he is awake and is making daily progress, which is great news; on the other hand - it became very evident what a long road ahead it will be for his recovery. I don't want to get into too many details, but I will say that he is responsive to basic requests and is trying to talk. He is not able to speak right now due to the tubes still installed in his throat, so this week the doctors are going to minimize the tubes and leave him with the smallest intrusion that they can so that he can start having the ability to speak again. We are hoping that this will help with him with regaining memory, because at this point - he doesn't seem to remember much, which is not unusual with this type of brain injury. I think that going forward, it will be helpful to put together some personal messages for him, to help him remember. I am going to do a separate Post on Facebook asking everyone to submit some videos for Eugene, wishing him well, and maybe include photos and videos of yourself with Eugene so that his big beautiful brain can start remembering the abundance of friends and love that he has in this world...

For now as always, please keep Eugene and Liz and the girls in your prayers. I will keep everyone posted, but everyone should be prepared for a long haul, nothing will be happening overnight and we all need to continue to be here for our friends and their families.

Kindest regards,

--

Hello Everyone!

A quick update on Eugene’s condition:

It’s improving? In the last two days he has opened his eyes and communicated a bit with his visitors. He is also regaining some movement in his left leg, which is very promising. His conscious periods are only a couple of minutes long, but are a sign of hope and improvement. Let’s pray that he regains full consciousness in the coming days!

Kindly,
