We are seeking YOUR SUPPORT to expand and complete our dream of creating an all inclusive school, where children come first !

Nestled under the Darling Scarp, Eton Farm is an oasis with large trees and gardens started in 1908 by William McKay. For over 100 years, the immediate family has worked the farm, running dairy cows, sheep for wool production/fat lambs and more recently beef cattle and horse agistment. Mary McKay-Walton, great grand-daughter of William McKay, now owns the property and is inspired to turn Eton Farm into a ‘Farm School’ for all children, whilst keeping the charm of the farm that her parent’s, Frank and Isobel McKay, created. With extensive experience in early childhood learning, Mary brings knowledge, passion and a unique approach to child centred learning.

Eton Farm hosts the old house built in 1930 by Mary’s Grandparents, where the school is currently being run.

Our School’s mission:

At the Eton Farm Education, we are dedicated to the belief that students, parents and educators are all involved in the children’s education in a responsible, nurturing and supportive way.

We believe that all children:

·       learn at different paces, possess unique learning styles, and can develop lifelong learning skills.

·       are entitled to a safe, secure, and healthy environment.

·       should be treated fairly and equitably

Our staff will strive to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, and to instil in all children a sense of self-worth whilst considering their social, emotional and physical needs.

We will stress acceptance, tolerance, responsibility and teach healthy life skills so that our children grow into confident, co-operative and productive members of society.

Our goal:

·       To offer Parents an alternative community education for their children that is not currently available in our proposed catchment area.

·       To provide a Community School that will offer:

·       Small class sizes 1:10/15 in younger years and 1:20 in older years.

·       Spacious school grounds

·       Children learning at their own pace to become independent learners

·       Inclusivity

·       Class Teachers who will be trained in alternative educational approaches eg Montessori, Steiner, Reggio Emilio, Orff Schulwerk or other creative approaches.

·       Specialist teachers who will be highly proficient in their subject area:

o   Animal experts

o   Horse riding teachers

o   Gardeners

·       Managed by Parents and Teachers

o   Parents sharing their skills of career or passion

o   On the Board of Directors.

We strongly believe that Passionate Teachers will enable Passionate Students with a love of learning and is paramount to their development.

Educational Programme

Our Integrated Educational Programme will accommodate the educational needs and diversity of all students fostering lifelong learning skills and freedom to explore their strength and interests.

We will deliver a program that encourages co-operative learning and active hands-on techniques integrated into all core subject areas.  Our school and class environment will support intellectual, social and physical learning processes and recognise that the child is at the centre of the programme.

Our programme will meet the learning needs of all students as we implement the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline.

·       Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will follow the Early Learning Framework – Belonging, Being and Becoming.

·       Pre-Primary to Year 6 will follow:

o   The approved, accredited curriculum by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority

Music & Movement Education and an Environmental Education Programme will be an important part of our school’s programme.  Visual Arts, Language and Physical Education will also be prominent.

Our Music & Movement programme will be based on Carl Orff’s approach – Orff Schulwerk. The Orff Schulwerk Pedagogy along with music and movement has strong links with many other learning areas.

Our Environmental Education programme will also be a main feature as we recognise that outdoor learning spaces are an optimum feature of Australian landscapes.  Integration of natural elements promotes more natural spontaneous open learning.

o   Our unique environment with 160 acres of rural zoned property will help us to take our learning outcomes outside.

o   Nature Play will be available for play and learning with a vast array of possibilities that may not available indoors. The play will be structured and unstructured.

o   Preparing soil and growing vegetables and fruit trees

o   Caring for animals daily.

o   Horse riding lessons are being considered.

We believe that our students gross motor skills, problem solving skills, spatial awareness are a few of the many benefits that can be enhanced by this style of pedagogy.

Visual Arts Education will allow for self-expression and an opportunity to create and improvisation with a variety of locations around the property to explore different media.

A focus on Language will be a part of all subject areas with group discussions, reading, speaking, writing to consolidate and develop strong skills to create a strong foundation.

Mode of delivery

Our mode of delivery will be face to face in an open plan class-room setting and in outdoor areas specifically designed for structured and unstructured play.

Music & Movement lessons will be delivered in an open studio space where the children will have the ability to move freely.  Art sessions will also be delivered in an open studio or outside when necessary to capture the natural surroundings.

Physical Education will take place on large open spaces either on the school oval or in large spaces made available to cater for specific sports on the farm.

Environmental Education / Nature Play will be taught in the garden, in the paddock or in places designed for specific learning outcomes.

We plan to make use of the ample space to deliver our lessons.
