Esports at San Jose State Scholarship Program

Esports at San Jose State was founded in August of 2018. Our goal is to provide the best players on campus with an opportunity to compete at a national level in video game competition while instilling values in academic success and life balance while being students at San Jose State University.  We have official teams in League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Fortnite, with many more coming in the future!

In March 2019, our League of Legends team qualified into the inaugural Mountain West Esports Series Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. After hard fought series against University of Nevada: Reno and Boise State University, the Spartans emerged on top and took home $5000 in scholarship money and qualified into the National Championship Play-ins!

This achievement is very significant to us as this team was brand new coming into this new year. For only being an organization for 8 months, and being 100% student funded, this accomplishment showed that our staff and players shows the grit, hard work, and dedication it takes to be champions despite being logistically limited for being a new organization. With this win, we are confident we can achieve long term success. However, we need YOUR help!

We are looking to create a scholarship program for all of our players in Spartan Esports. Each player has devoted a significant amount of time after education into our program. After school hours, they get online and commit to a practice schedule that lasts up to 3-4 hours 3 times a week included our official matches. This time dedicated to the program subtracts from their efforts in education.  Our players understand the sacrifice required to be the best in the conference and our League of Legends team proved that hard work can pay off. We would like to reward their time and dedication to this program by covering a portion of our players tuition for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for the generous support and your investment into our new organization! We hope to instill Spartan pride among all our players and spread the love of competitive video gaming in the process!
