Preparing for final expenses

First off, I just want to say how grateful I have always been to be blessed with amazing parents. I was lucky enough to have the greatest dad in the world. My dad always put us first and worked to provide for us and make sure we had everything we ever wanted or needed. My mom and dad have been together since they were 18 and have showed me what true love looks like. I have always been amazed at how much they were still in love with each other even after all of those years. My dad has always accepted anyone who walked into our house as family. He would do anything in the world for anyone. I know this is all a mess, but I really don't think I could ever put into words how much love he has for us and how much we have for him.

As everyone pretty much knows by now, my dad has stage four lung cancer. He was doing chemo and the tumors seemed to be shrinking a little bit, but then he had a massive reaction to the chemo and had to be put on a different type of medication. Since then, he was starting to feel worse, but we think he wasn't telling us how bad he was feeling since he is such a strong and prideful man. On Sunday he said he wasn't feeling well at first and thought maybe he had food poisoning or something, within about an hour he said he felt like he couldn't breathe. My mom took him to the hospital and he had a heart attack. The heart attack put a strain on his already weak body, but the doctors said this is all about his lungs. They put a breathing mask on, but he still had to put forth effort of his own to breathe and after a while he just became too tired and told them he couldn't do it anymore, so they decided to put him on the ventilator. He was so uncomfortable on the ventilator, he was waking up out of maxed out sedation and pain medication trying to pull his tube out, so they made the decision to go ahead and take the ventilator out and let him breathe on his own under sedation until his body can't anymore. There was no other option for my dad, except leaving him on life support. His body just can't recover from this. They are keeping him completely comfortable until he decides it's his time. He is sedated and not in any pain at all, which is all my mom has asked for. When they took the ventilator out he was the most at peace we had seen him since he went into the hospital, it was like an instant relief for him. Most patients suffer from amnesia and don't remember anything, but he woke up laughing and joking with all the nurses and we got to talk to him for about 30 minutes until they had to sedate him and I am so grateful that my mom got those moments with him and it's something I will always cherish. He is still breathing on his own now, but his vitals are slowly dropping more and more as time passes on.

I would also really like to just thank his nurses and everyone that are working so hard to take care of him. Especially Kristen, I know she won't see this, but I truly believe she is an angel and isn't really a person at all.

Any donations will go to help with his final expenses and to help my mom with anything that she may need done. She has not left his side since he went in on Sunday and I just want to make sure she has nothing to worry about, besides taking care of herself.

I'd also just like to say that we understand if you can not donate, but would just like to ask for your thoughts and prayers for our family at this time as well. Especially for my mom.
