Education Fund in Memory of Lola

Donation protected
In memory of Lola Ilizirova, this fund will go towards her children, Meadow and Holden's education.

Lola passed away on the morning of Dec 6th, 2016 from a rare condition called New-onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE).  Her daughter Meadow and son Holden were there to support through that difficult time and will always remember her for the beautiful, caring, loving mother she was.

The money funded here will go towards the chldren's education. We all know that education is such an important part of a person's life, yet rising tuition costs may make a post secondary education harder to attain, especially by the time Meadow and Holden are old enough to go off to school.
It is important that this fund help build a solid financial base to guarentee them an educational opportunity. Your generous donation is going towards something special, an investment into the future of two amazing, smart children.

Meadow and Holden are two of the brightest, kindest and fun children you may ever meet. Holden is 8 years old and has a great personality and loves sports, especially pro wrestling.
Meadow is 5 years old and loves singing and dancing, just like her mother did.

Meadow and Holden's father, William Major Short, will face the challenges and hardships of being a single parent, but his strong character, determination and love for his family will ensure a bright and positive future for his children. He is an amazing father now and will continue to be for the rest of their lives.

With the support of their father, family, and friends Meadow and Holden will get through this tough time and grow to love life and continue to positivly affect everyone around them.
Lets help out by giving a donation to Meadow and Holden's future education!

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela

To learn more about New Onset Refratory Status Epilepticus (NORSE) please read the following information, provided by Epilepsy Toronto.

New Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE) is an acute medical condition requiring emergency treatment. NORSE is characterized by abnormally prolonged seizures or a flurry of very frequent seizures (status epilepticus) that occur suddenly often in patients with no history of seizures. NORSE often has no known cause and does not respond to the established medical treatment. Affected individuals are often placed in an induced coma to control their seizures and to protect their brain until the seizures can be reduced.

A mild illness such as an upper respiratory tract or gastro-intestinal tract illness with fever usually precipitates NORSE. This first phase usually lasts a few days to a few weeks and is quickly followed by an onset of seizures. Complex Partial Seizures (altered consciousness) and generalized tonic-clonic (grand-mal) seizures can occur and are initially intermittent but become increasingly more frequently and the patient’s consciousness declines as the illness progresses.

Patient outcomes are very difficult to predict. While many patients with NORSE do recover, mortality rates are high and complications are common. At least one half of the surviving patients are left with long-term cognitive and functional disability and most will have epilepsy, requiring lifelong treatment with anticonvulsants.  Epilepsy Toronto

-Currently 1 in 100 people have epilepsy
-1 in 26 people will develop seizures in their lifetime
-30% of those people will not respond to treatment (be refractory)
-12% of those refractory patients will die within two years. Seizures Matter.
