Equality Hour is a start-up social enterprise pioneering a new type of employment - "community-created employment".
In the industrial revolution days it made sense for one employer to employ thousands of people. That's risky today though. One decision by one employer can mean you lose it all.
Today, technology (particularly, the "network effect") allows us to turn that model on its head and have thousands of people "employing" one person.
We build a community of support around each unemployed person, by helping them reach out to their real community - those who will give up an hour of their income to support them financially when they need it most - in exchange for a time task.
This allows them to not only feel supported, valued and empowered but to escape the degrading effects of welfare that drain-away time and self-esteem. (If you've seen the movie, I Daniel Blake, you'll know what I mean).
Instead, we harness the world's most precious commodity - time - and the energy and intellect of those not currently working, by helping them make real connections (and multiple streams of income) with their network of trusted friends and family.
Our first goal is to support one person, full-time for six months, at an hourly rate of $35AUD (the Aussie average salary).
So, whatever your hourly rate is, we'd love you to donate that and be a part of a brand new world where people aren't just employed or unemployed, but have the option of being "Community-Created Employed".
Together, let's change the world, in an hour!
P.S. Don't forget to tell us your time task (it could be something you're passionate about "Please tweet my facebook page" or something you think would benefit the unemployed person "spend an hour taking photos of nature" - feel free to be creative and whimsical!
