Emma's Transgender Journey

Emma's journey began on February 24 2011 on that day she was born into this world and given the name Colton.
As time drifted by so did all traces of what we thought was our youngest son.
You see Emma was diagnosed at the age of 5 with gender dysmorphia and after reading book after book and using google to no end we decided that we would not contribute to putting our child into the staggering 40% suicide rate of trans people.
We thought we not have very much to worry about with all of this until around middle school so we happily sent Emma to school only to have her come home in tears daily being humiliated by her teachers and forced to make the decision of using the boys bathroom in a dress or urinate on herself.
her journey is too long to tell here and I will add links to the various media coverage of her journey thus far .During all of this we discovered that my husband has mouth cancer and after many surgeries he ended up with a prosthetic that takes the place of both his hard and his soft pallet and the majority of his sinus cavity .We have learned to cut back to one vehicle, do away with anything not necessary and make ends meet, so we are not starting this go fund me for that reason.
We are starting this because we want to go ahead and start a savings for Emma so that when the time comes money will not keep her from obtaining her hormone blockers and we will hopefully have enough saved by the time she needs it to move forward with her gender reassignment surgery.
she is such a brave girl and she makes me proud every day.
I was so scared everyday of what lies ahead for her and most of my fears came true in the way that some adults and even family have treated her but then I look at how resilient she is and how happy she is being herself and I just know in my heart that she will rise above all the hate that is so prevalent here in the south.
