Our dad Phillip Enyam, father of 6, who immigrated to this Country more than two decades ago, returned home from a long shift at around 1am on Wednesday March 22 to find his American Dream discarded in the dirt staring up at him, cold and dead.
His youngest child, Emmanuel, an 18 year old was shot and left to die in our backyard. Emmanuel was 6’3”, with a big laugh and an even bigger heart. He was witty, loved the outdoors and couldn’t sit still. Yet we found him in a state that contradicted everything that he was and that is how we knew he was dead.
His big smile was replaced with a terrified empty stare. His large frame looked so small and his constantly moving hands and legs were stiff and still. The boy who loved the outdoors was left outdoors all night in the cold, alone to suffer and die only a few feet away from his home and from his family inside.
No family is ever prepared to bury a loved one and certainly not at such a young age. As we grieve our loss, we are faced with the unexpected burden of funeral expenses as well as cost of investigations to find our brother’s killer.
We want to give our laughing giant Emmanuel a befitting farewell. As we are still trying to make sense of this tragedy and make final arrangements for which we are least prepared, we are reaching out to our family, friends, well-wishers to help support us in this time of dire need. Any financial contribution will go a long way to help us. We pray no other family should ever be in our predicament and can only ask that God who sees your kindness to us will bless and reward you most abundantly.
