Emma's Story

Emma began riding at the age of two and a half chasing her father and older brother. It wasn’t long before Emma was addicted, riding her QR50 from dawn to dusk every chance she got.

At the age of 8 years, Emma began racing motocross at her local track, Monza Park.

Emma has always competed against the boys in motocross to challenge herself and to move up in the national grading’s.

Emma is the first Australian female rider to be graded as “A” grade amongst the boys.

Graded when she was just 10 years old she managed to maintain that grade all the way into her senior levels of racing.

This monumental mark for Emma awarded her a sports scholarship for her secondary education.

In 2014 Emma moved into senior competition at the age of 16. Unaware of what the future would hold, Emma faced more challenges in her first few years of senior racing then most would in their entire career.

Missing out on winning the Australian Women’s Motocross Championships by just 2 points in her first year of seniors, Emma worked hard in the summer of 2015 to better her results in the coming season. The hard work and dedication was evident when Emma won the first round of Australian Women’s Motocross Championships in April 2015, but this victory was short lived. Whilst competing in a regional at Horsham preparing for the final round of nationals Emma had a severe accident breaking both her neck and back. Emma underwent spinal surgery in the thoracic region of her spine where the surgeons fused 2 rods and 10 screws that would stay there for life, and take what they thought 12 months to fully heal.

This accident impacted Emma’s life immensely, brining everything including her schooling to a halt for months. With the guidance of her family and support network Emma was able to complete her VCE, and begin her comeback. Starting off with light gym work and regular visits to the doctor to monitor the progression of her spinal fusion, Emma got the all clear from the doctors to ride at just 6 months.  The doctors believe that Emma’s quick healing process was directly related to the high fitness levels she sustained before her accident.

Emma would begin training for 2016 in late January, giving her under a month to prepare for the upcoming state titles.

Throughout the 2016 season Emma had to work hard to be on par with her competition, as she had little to no off-season. Her results improved as the season went on, just falling short of first in the state championship and placing 4th in the nationals, which was not a true reflection of her ability.

Working with the team around her, Emma has regrouped after a challenging season and has her eyes set on her goals.

Emma currently works part-time and is a HD student in her studies of Sports Science, which is a fundamental study that contributes knowledge into her racing career.

Why do I need funding?

Emma is a young female motocross athlete with multi national and state titles. After spending most of her life in the motocross scene competing with Australia’s best, Emma is a well-seasoned athlete looking for more. Emma has her eyes set on racing in Europe in 2017 for her Women’s World Motocross Championship debut, which she would call a “dream season”.

Experiencing the in’s and out’s of the sport Emma has a thorough understanding of what it takes to be successful and knows she cannot get through this journey alone. The sport of motocross has many financial aspects and the only way Emma can compete in her dream season is by seeking financial support from sponsors.

Funds raised will go towards all expenses associated with travelling, living, training and racing in Europe for the 2017 Women's World Championship season.

This is why Emma is reaching out to you, to join the journey, and ride through her dream season with her.

I am extremely grateful for everyone who has helped me get to where I am today, and I thank everyone for any donations made to help me make my dream come true.

Decided late last week to give the Loket @mxgp a go! Had a good start in Moto 1 but got tangled with a few girls in the first corner putting me back in the pack. Worked my way up to 11th and was about to make the pass for 10th and had a little tip over with 2 laps to go and finished in 14th. Moto 2 I struggled with my shoulder in the wet conditions and just decided not to push it too much and finished the race in 12th.
Pretty good results considering I wasn't able to train for nearly 2 months and only rode my bike a couple of times Enjoyed getting to experience another GP and look forward to getting back to Netherlands and training for Assen -
