ELDERLY WOMAN LOST HOME DURING THANKSGIVING FIRE
Emma Martin, 70, is a native resident of Hattiesburg, MS and needs our help. She had lived in her home on South 16th Ave for over 25 years, until a electrical fire destroyed her home, her memories, and her joyful laughter. Ms. Emma has worked all her life serving and giving to others. Everyone in the Hattiesburg community knows her to be one who gives her very last to anyone who is in need. She used her home to feed those who were hungry; give shelter to those who had no where else to go, even those passing through. When scolded for giving her last dollar, she always says, "The Lord will take care of me."
Ms. Emma worked over 30 years as a child care provider and cook until recent years when her health begin to fail. Ms. Emma is no longer mobile and a 17 year dialysis patient who requires a stable residence to receive home health services and a safe, clean place to recover each day from dialysis. When she was forced to stop working, she was no longer able to maintain homeowner's insurance. Therefore, the home was not covered at the time of the fire. We are seeking community and crowdfunding support to help rebuild her home and her life. Any skilled in demolition, home building, construction, contracting, and foundations, who would be willing to donate labor and/or materials would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, we are asking for financial support to buy materials, pay for labor and refurnish the home with the basic necessities and appliances. We have been told that the demolition and rebuild could happen within a month and it is estimated that the cost will be $45,000. We hope to obtain funding and support enough to accomplish this.
