After enduring a long road of IVF Dana and Eric were blessed to have twins in 2016 and then on January 9th of this year another beautiful baby girl.

To get some much needed rest and bonding time with the baby and to help assist in severe post-partum depression and anxiety that Dana gets after giving birth, they sent the twins to go visit their grandparents in Nebraska. When it was time for them to come back, Eric (a licensed private pilot) planned to fly them home, accompanied by Dana and the new baby.

After fueling up and making sure they had more than the recommended fuel in reserves, they were flying into Rock Springs Wyoming when they reached much stronger headwind than anticipated and burned through the fuel 3 miles short of the airport where they were planning on refueling. The engine went out but keeping a collected mind and excellent control of the situation Eric followed all Emergency procedures correctly and landed the plane in a desert field in Wyoming, at dusk, in snow.

Being miles from the nearest road or building and with the negative temperatures they had to hunker down and huddle together in the plane while trying to get help.  They were there in the dark for three hours trying to keep warm, holding their babies and their breath while time ticked. Search and rescue was called out and it was deemed too unsafe and too long for a ground response team but luckily a Life Flight helicopter at a nearby hospital heard the call and was given clearance to go rescue them.

The whole family of 5 was picked up and taken to the hospital for observance where everyone was checked over and the baby was treated for mild hypothermia. After a long night and assistance from family and local authorities they finally made it back home to Heber, leaving the airplane out in the field.

We are so glad that everything worked out to get them to safety and that it wasn't worse, given the entire situation and although they are grateful for the physical help from everyone involved, the family is left with some huge financial struggles:

- Trips back and forth to Rock Springs trying to get their shared plane towed out of the field and back to Heber
- A huge expense from Lift Flight for picking up all 5 of them
-Out of state medical bills

They would never ask, so I am.  If you have the means, and find it in your heart to donate to assist in some of the aftermath of the traumatic event, I am sure it would help relieve their stress and anxiety.

Much love and thank you in advance,
 -Jamie McCormick (Dana's sister)
