Emaciated Shih Tzu Tossed from Car
All you could see was his nose and tongue through the matts, and as he heard a kind voice, an amazing thing happened. This sweet little creature moved towards us and gave kisses. He was stumbling over from the weight of his matts and weakness of his body, yet he yearned to love and be loved. We cuddled this beautiful forgiving soul despite the matts and smell, and we named him Grant,
We immediately rushed Grant to Oradell Animal Hospital, as he was in distress and so weak. His red blood cell count was low, and it dipped down even further in the first hours of his hospitalization. Blood was found in his feces. Grant was put in an IV and given a blood transfusion to stablize him. He will have an ultrasound to determine if these symptoms are as a result of severe neglect or if there is more going on. Our hope is that with 24 hour care and TLC, we can give Grant a second chance at life and that his body will respond positively.
Grant remains loving - his faith in people remains steady as ours diminishes. Help Grant learn about human kindness, and please help us give Grant the life that he deserves.
Our sweet Grant passed away early this morning from multiple complications of severe starvation and neglect.
This is despite the best efforts of the RBARI and Oradell teams to save his life. This dog was a fighter to the very end - but ultimately, the consequences of the brutal abuse and suspected chronic neglect he suffered was too much for his little body to overcome.
His case is under active investigation and will be pursued to the fullest extent of existing laws. If you see animal abuse or neglect, speak up and contact the authorities: you may well save a life and prevent needless suffering.
Our most heartfelt thanks go out to officer John DeCando of Paterson Animal Control for reaching out to us immediately when he was alerted to Grant being thrown from the car, the bystander who chose not to turn her head on a crime against an innocent dog..the staff of Oradell Animal Hospital for their love and care ...and the reporters and news organizations that spread Grant's story.
Last but certainly not least to you all...our extended RBARI family for opening your hearts and for the support you have so generously showered on our dear Grant.
Our fight for Grant and his memory is not over. We will keep you all updated on any and all developments in our efforts to make sure that justice is served.
Our hearts are collectively broken. Thank you so much for caring. ❤️
Rest In Peace our sweet boy. We will never forget you.
Due to his red blood cell count dropping ...our sweet Grant had a blood transfusion, and continues to be on IV fluids and under 24 hour care.
After the transfusion, Grant tried to stand on his own...but due to his very weak condition, is still unable to keep himself up, and his frail legs buckle beneath him.
We look forward to the day when he has the strength to stand and walk. Please keep this very special boy in your hearts as he continues to fight. ..we will do whatever it takes to help him. Thank you for caring ❤️
I helped my baby boy PJ cross over 08/25/16 and not a day goes by that I still ache to have him in my life. This lowlife tossed this sweet innocent angel out like trash. A dog is the only thing in a person's life that will love you more than they love themselves. I would adopt this sweetheart and what a pampered pooch he'd be! He'd never want for another thing in his life! Many hugs and kisses to help him forget the loss of pure innocence. Gut wretching ...
Dogs are too good for this world. Looking at that sweet beautiful face brings tears to my eyes. I hope whoever did this, gets caught and put in jail. What a low-life. What a disgrace to the human race. Be well sweet Grant, may you continue to get better.
This breaks my heart, it boggles my mind to know that people can be so cruel and evil. If they didn't want the dog they should have surrendered it. I am praying for this little guy to get healthy and get a family who will give him all the love he deserves. Sending kisses and hugs
The person(s) that did this must be so lost. They can't be cultivated anything more in their lives than what they put out, so divine justice is being served. If they were standing in front of me, I'd spit on them. Thank God for the humanity in good people. That beautiful animal only wanted love. I could cry but it's too sad to stand, so I'll just hope for the best for this baby.
People who do these PURE EVIL doings are LOW LIFE SCUM . They are lucky i was not the one who was behind them cause they would have to deal with me and i would not be be good outcome !! .Iam iam the voice for the voiceless !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANIMALS AND CHILDREN
Is he going to survive? He looks so poor. Wonderful response to his story. I pray he will rally and get his happy ending. He surely deserves better. What a little darling.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!!! That's craaaaaaaaazy that the donations are exceeding what is needed ! The outpouring of love in this world for animals seems to be more than for each other. Wish the donations for my friend in the morgue for 15 days could have gone past $140. Keep up the good work gang !
They can't afford to groom the dogs and then they do stupid shit like this
If you think about it DOG spelled backwards is GOD. So everyone who hurts any animal should go to hell
Do you need a foster home for Grant? I live in Delaware and have had many fosters over the years through several shelters in the area. We have a nice quiet home with an older dog and 3 cats. We've had other 'hard' cases like Grant that needed a little extra TLC. We just lost our first foster failure: she came and never left- ten happy years with her. Message me if you think I can lend a hand in Grant's recovery and soft spot to land while you find his forever home. :)
"Thanks" to those who are helping with skill, resources, money, love and respect for life. I tried to write something about those who tried to destroy this Great Dog, but words fail me in this forum.
Thank you so much for the update. Keep fighting Grant - prove to your heartless prior owner that you are worthy to go to a forever home and get lots of hugs, kisses and many treat everyday....
He looks so cute in his little update photo ...poor little sweet guy. How could someone ever be so cruel to treat you the way they did. I hope this puppy gets to truly know what it's like to be in a living home with people who care for him the way he should
He's looking better already! Good job, people
This dog is the sweetest!
