Elmo's House Artist Residency is a Contemporary Art project designed to connect Philippines, Canada and the rest of the world through the sharing of ideas and creative resources. Amidst a tropical location and distinct cultural history, It’s the first artist residency in this region. With the goal of fostering cultural exchange and dialogue with lasting impact between local residents and visiting artists, particpiants are encouraged to develop projects that engage the community while utilizing the surrounding geography.

Elmo’s House Artist Residency opened its doors on February 2017. Over the last six months, the residency has welcomed more than a dozen artists, from Canada, US and Australia.

With patrons’ assistance through this campaign, we strive to achieve the following for our 2018 programming:
• major plumbing repairs
• a salary to employ local staff to facilitate and maintain Elmo’s House mandates
• assisting artists with high cost of travel and the shipping of their works
• tools, supplies and labour to build a fully equipped wood shop
• providing artists with a stipend
• developing community outreach initiatives

We have come a long way since starting this crowdfunding campaign back in November 2016. Nothing could have prepared us for the full scope of this adventure until we started operating on location in Batan, Philippines on February 2017.

Thank You Donors

The money you have generously donated have gone a long way! We have raised $2,736 so far. Your donations allowed us to acquire goods and services that welcomed the first wave of artists:

-kitchen appliances
-bedroom and bathroom linens
-minor house renovations
-minor plumbing repairs

Help Us Spread the Word

We need to continue this campaign to reach our initial goal of $10,000. There’s still a lot to be done. New donations will go towards major needs such as:

-major plumbing repairs
-a salary to employ local staff to facilitate and maintain Elmo’s House mandates
-assisting artists with high cost of travel and the shipping of their works
-tools, supplies and labour to build a fully equipped woodshop
-providing artists with a stipend
-developing community outreach initiatives

Website Updates

We are currently busy with creating content for the website. There’s 6 months worth of artist profiles and projects that needs to be uploaded. So please stay tuned for our Newsletter for who has been here and for what has been happening at Elmo’s House.

Patrons’ Gifts

We love our Patrons. We’re not able to do the work that we hope to do here at Elmo’s House without the support of our friends and colleagues. We are deeply sorry for this gross delay. The gifts have been made and they are awaiting to be sent. The Residents have been working on them and expect to see these in your mailbox soon!

There is much work still to be done. Your support and encouragement has been invaluable. The past six months has shown us how Elmo’s House has the potential to positively affect a small town like Batan through relationships and Contemporary Art.

Thank you again for believing and putting your trust in our project.

The residency has started with Tsema and Jonathan Igharas. The past couple of weeks has been quite an amazing challenge with so many different projects happening at once. We will be updating our website soon with photos and articles to keep you up to date on our activities. For quick snapshots of our daily adventures, please check us out on instagram (@kuhldays).

Please share with your friends and colleagues about Elmo's House as we are unable to continue without your support. Thank you <3
