Our family of five serves as missionaries in Alberta, Canada. We love our ministry and being able to impact people with the precious gospel message. We have wonderful partners who share our ministry burden by giving and praying for us. Their generosity provides us with the ability to work full-time in ministry and still pay the bills.
Recently, we had an expense arise that exceeds our ability to cover.
Our daughter, Ellie, needs some serious work done on her teeth due to a 100% overbite. We've done a lot of homework, seen several different dentists/orthodontists and processed a lot of information. The professional opinions have been extremely varied: everything from $8000 for two years of braces to $2400 for 10 months of wearing a retainer-like device.
While we know we could leave her to deal with this issue as an adult (either by dealing with side-effects of a poor bite or the much bigger cost and discomfort of fixing it as an adult, which involves breaking her jaw and rewiring it), we feel it's our responsibility as parents to do everything possible to help her with this. We're trusting the Lord to provide what's needed so we can take care of her in this way.
After much prayer and discussion, we've decided to go with the dentist who will do the retainer device. The cost is $2400. We'd like to start the process as soon as we have the initial $720 down payment needed to get started. We're told that Ellie is at the optimal point in her growth for this treatment, so the sooner we can get going, the better.
We know there are numerous life-and-death needs out there that you can give to. Our need is minor in comparison. However, we are putting it out there in case you wish to help us out anyway. Please only give if you feel led to. We trust the Lord to undertake for us in this decision, one way or another, as He has so many other times.
