Hello everyone, here’s a long-awaited update on Elle’s road to recovery.

Elle has just undergone her 3rd surgery last week back home in Orange County. This surgery was to place a shunt that will hopefully resolve the swelling from hydrocephalus which was a side effect in an otherwise perfect 2nd surgery (the replacement of Elle’s skull).  Elle is at home recovering from this most recent surgery and is hopeful that this shunt will finally resolve the constant pain and discomfort she has been battling daily since October 1st.

Her family and friends have been a great source of love and support. Elle has been a constant source of positive inspiration and has had many long and painful days, but her smile never wavers even in the most frustrating/painful of times. Elle and her family are hopeful not only that the shunt helps with her physical healing but that the power of prayer and counseling help with her spiritual and mental healing as well.

She is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from all of you and although the steady progress she made in the first month of this horrific injury has slowed, her optimism remains in tact. Elle has a follow up appointment with her surgeon this week to see if the shunt is functioning how it is intended and will assess whether the shunt needs adjusting or if a 4th surgery to further repair the injury is required. However it is our hope that she does not need another surgery and that she can begin to slowly transition back into her new “normal”.

Thank you all for your prayers, donations, well wishes and love. In Elle’s most trying of times the power of prayer and love has had a profoundly positive effect on Elle’s recovery.  Updates soon to follow thank you all for being a part of #TeamElle.

A note from Elle's Father, Mike:

"Hi Elle’s Friends and Family,

Thank you all for keeping Elle in your thoughts and prayers.

Yesterday Elle was examined by the neurosurgeon and he said she was ready for her next and hopefully final surgery. This is to replace the bone plate that had to be removed to reduce potential brain damage from swelling. It will be next Tuesday.

Elle has been getting stronger every day so our hope is that her recovery from the surgery will be short and we can be returning home as early as next weekend.

More good news to come."

A quick update for 10/24/17:

Yesterday Elle was discharged from the hospital! She is staying in Vegas until her next surgery, but she is expected to return to California soon afterwards. She is excited to finally have a home cooked meal and continues to make exciting progress in her recovery!

"Hi Elles Friends and Family. 10/10/17 7:00am

I am so happy to say Elle was moved out of the ICU last night into the Physical Therapy floor. She was able to sleep through the night without getting poked every 2 hrs and all of the Vital Sign sensors and IV lines were removed. It’s a little disconcerting not having all that feedback but as I told Elle, there was no way her Drs and nurses would have those things removed unless the were 125% sure her body and brain were up to the task of “running Elle day to day”.

Elle has a prescribed schedule of PT and daily tasks all geared to getting her motor functions and cognitive skills up to Elle’s pre injury baseline. As many of you know Elle is very task oriented and is eager to take on the challenge.

To think that a week ago Elle’s life was hanging in the balance is surreal to me. What an amazing journey she has taken. Our family is so grateful for having such an amazing daughter, brilliant Drs and nurses and all of you!
As I have said before your kindness, concern, and prayers have helped sustain us and buoyed our spirits.

More good news to come.

One final note. Thank you all for helping us in our attempts to find the the kind folks that helped Elle get to safety and the hospital. Our quest is ongoing."

Please help us share that we are looking for the kind individuals who took Elle to the hospital. Thank you!
