Elite Centre was set up by Colin O’Shaughnessy a Kickboxing World Champion and Elite Athlete in 2010 initially to rehabilitate sports injuries but grew into rehabilitating all injuries, metabolic diseases and spinal injuries, including becoming the first non medical centre in the World to have a Bionic Exoskeleton in 2015. With the experience of being a World Class athlete and travelling Worldwide in the pursuit of training and rehabilitation knowledge to extend his sporting career Colin has amassed huge experience and expertise in strengthening and rehabilitating people.

The fastest growing demographic group in Ireland is the 65+. By 2031 there will be 1 million people 65+ in Ireland. An increase in over 85% since 2016.

In Elite Rehabilitation centre in Cork we have one core tenet that is to improve the quality of peoples lives. We do this by making people stronger. Stronger people live more productive and easier lives. They can do more and be more.

We have established a dedicated gym in Cork called Active + to provide tailored programs for Senior citizens and those rehabilitating from injuries or post-surgery. The gym is stocked with leading edge HUR equipment.

HUR equipment offers well-proven exercising concepts for senior exercise, rehabilitation and wellness. The Active + area provides world-leading computer-based training solutions for all ages and abilities.

HUR equipment is a highly specialised strength training solution. The equipment is safe, easy to use and effective for preventive and rehabilitative exercise. HUR has over 10,000 installations across 5 continents but Active + is the first installation of its kind in Ireland.

The  equipment offers world-leading university level equipment that is used for senior exercise and rehabilitation. Crucial for efficient and safe training and operating within these fields is to have a computerised system for automated reporting and possibility for individual safe training with pneumatic resistance – as well as zero starting load and 100g/1kg increments in resistance, as well as range limiters and additional support.

Currently one of the leading causes of fatal injuries and non fatal injuries for older people is falls.

“Women who break a hip at age 65 years or older face double the risk of dying within the coming year compared with those without a hip fracture, even if they have an otherwise excellent bill of health, according to an analysis of osteoporotic fractures published online September 26 in the Archives of Internal Medicine.”

Quality of Life

We currently work with several people over the age of 50 including Stroke Survivors and people with Metabolic diseases such as MS and Ataxia. Our ethos is to improve people’s quality of life by making them stronger so they can;
Have more energy
Sleep better
Have more independence
Be less stressed
Do more
Able to survive falls/accidents
Travel
Work
Mind family members.

The gym is available for individual use but can also be booked in blocks by corporates, community groups or health care companies to provide promotion, sponsorship or dedicated use for clients or healthcare professionals.

The main goal is to cover the cost of this equipment so it can be provided in a subsidised manner for those who need it.
