El 5 de julio Peter se encontraba de vacaciones en República Dominicana, cuando sintió que no podía levantarse del sofá, inmediatamente fue llevado de emergencia a una clínica dónde se determinó que sufrió un accidente cerebrovascular ACV, también conocido como ictus que consiste en la detención del flujo de sangre en parte del cerebro.
El efecto de un ACV genera un daño en el cerebro que afecta la movilidad y el habla, en algunos casos permanentemente, en otros, las personas pueden reincorporarse a sus actividades cotidianas total o parcialmente con relativa normalidad. Afortunadamente, Peter consiguió pronunciar algunas palabras el mismo día y ha mostrado una mejora continua, comprende todo lo que le dicen en los tres idiomas que domina y no ha perdido el sentido del humor y la energía vital que lo caracteriza.
Aun así, Peter perdió movilidad en la parte derecha del cuerpo y solo logra pronunciar algunas palabras. Debe atravesar una rehabilitación que lo capacite para caminar y hablar de nuevo, para lo cual necesita una terapia integral. Quienes tengan algún conocido que haya sufrido un ACV sabrán que los primeros meses son críticos para la recuperación.
Peter sigue en República Dominicana y el seguro de viaje ha descalificado el caso de su cobertura, por lo que sus hijos y esposa han tenido que asumir los gastos médicos hasta ahora, agotando prácticamente todos los fondos disponibles para ello.
Las donaciones serán utilizadas para trasladar a Peter a Alemania y cubrir un tratamiento de rehabilitación interdisciplinaria que provea asistencia integral tanto en los aspectos motores como los relacionados con el habla, los trastornos visuales, las actividades de la vida diaria y las secuelas incapacitantes como la espasticidad, para que Peter pueda alcanzar un grado de independencia suficiente como para retomar, al menos parcialmente, sus actividades habituales. Este equipo interdisciplinario debe estar formado por fisioterapeutas, neuropsicólogos, fonoaudiólogos, logopedas, terapeutas ocupacionales, y los relacionados con la medicina, como el médico rehabilitador o fisiatra, el psiquiatra y el neurólogo.

Fortunately, Peter managed to say a few words the same day and has shown continuous improvement, he understands everything he is told in his three languages, and he has not lost the sense of humor and enthusiasm that characterizes him.
Even so, Peter lost mobility in the right part of the body and is only able to pronounce some words. He must go through a rehabilitation program that enables him to walk and talk again, for which he needs an integral therapy. Those who have an acquaintance who has suffered a stroke will know that the first few months are critical for recovery.
Peter is still in the Dominican Republic and the insurance has disqualified the case of its coverage, so his children and wife have had to assume the medical expenses until now, exhausting practically all the available funds for it.
Donations will be used to transfer Peter to Germany and cover an interdisciplinary rehabilitation treatment that provides comprehensive assistance in both motor and speech aspects, visual disorders, activities of daily life and disabling sequelae such as spasticity, so that Peter can reach a sufficient degree of independence to resume, at least partially, his usual activities. This interdisciplinary team should be made up of physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and those related to medicine, such as a rehabilitation doctor or physiatrist, a psychiatrist and a neurologist.
