Fran Casey Portrait Group

Donation protected
All,
Our intent as Student Alumni who attended Flint Hill under the Administration of Fran Casey is to give a portrait to our former headmistress and Flint Hill 2.0 which honors her accomplishments and what she did for us, both as individuals and as a group. The portrait will hang with other portraits of former headmasters previously given by other alumni groups. The reality is in order to honor her, we need to do a bit of fund raising in order to take this from a virtual discussion group to real world action.
I ask you to harken back to your years at Flint Hill. I know each of us had a wide variety of experiences when we were in school—what is important here is that every day for 12 years Fran went to work to ensure we had the opportunity to receive a top notch education in a safe environment. Because of her efforts, we were provided the opportunity to grow and stretch as much as we were willing. Those of us who are now parents or work in the field can appreciate the challenges she must have faced every day to be a top notch educator and headmaster who was just, warm, nurturing, visionary, and professional… and made it all look so easy.
Among us are moms, dads, aviators, warriors, entrepreneurs, actors, singers, artists, athletes, judges, attorneys, broadcasters, consultants, professors, educators, accountants, counselors, doctors, government servants, and scientists, among others. She saw the potential within each of us, even if we did not, and gave each of us a piece of her heart. She truly lived by her ethic: “If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
Ms. Casey is in her later years and not in the best of health, and we need to get this done before it is too late for her to see this gift from her students that shows her our appreciation. We have $5,250 to raise as quickly as possible—ideally by 15 October, 2014 in order to allow the portrait artist to proceed promptly. As you know, we have identified an artist and we just need funds for work to start.
Time is truly of the essence. If we raise the funds by 15 October and ask the artist to then start, the earliest we will have a completed portrait for presentation is early next year. Every little bit will help, but on average this is about one less Starbucks’s coffee per week, or about one fewer pizza delivery per month per person over the next year. Please dig as deep as you can now, until it hurts…not later.
Go to GoFundMe.com and forward or e-mail this, or make the call to your Flint Hill friends and peers; exert some personal leadership and courage amongst those alumni upon which you have influence and exhort them to do the same. If necessary, we will fall back to a letter writing campaign.
Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concern, or want to discuss specific numbers.
In advance for Fran, thank you for contributing as much as you can and encouraging others to do the same. Working together, we Falcons can slam dunk this ball.
Best and warmest regards,
