Family of Eddie Sotomayor - Pulse
Eddie Sotomayor was the kindest, funniest, most sarcastic person anyone would actually love to meet. From the moment you met him, you could tell he was someone special and were instantly drawn in by his personality.
On June 4th, he posted "Each and every one of us has certain tests to pass in our lives: certain elevations that we have to go through, certain pain that we need to feel, certain cleansing processes we must experience, certain specific missions that we have to accomplish. That’s why we’ve been put here on Earth. If we can go through our lives with the understanding that everything that we face and every place that we find ourselves is put in front of us to bring us to another level of spirituality, then we can move through each day with a new kind of strength and certainty.
Sometimes we complain about our struggles, but if we truly understood the process we are in, we would realize that everything is as it needs to be — and that we wouldn't have it any other way."
His family is left with heartache, anger, unanswered questions and uncertainty of what to do next. We are hoping that we can raise some money for his family so that the costs of a wake, funeral arrangements, travel, etc. during this chaotic time is not something they have to worry about or endure the financial burden for. We hope that by raising some funds on their behalf we can help them focus on grieving and taking care of themselves and each other.
All funds will be given directly to Eddie's sister Kimberly to help with the expenses she and her family incur as she goes through the heartbreaking steps of picking up the pieces in wake of this horrific event.
Thank you in advance for your support for our family during this difficult time.
Thank you to those that have offered words of encouragement, guidance, and advice to help us navigate these difficult times.
Thank you to those that donated to our page, you helped the family worry about one less thing while planning the funeral and services. Thank you to those that have offered their talents, time, and assistance as we made funeral arrangements.
Thank you to ALand CHUCK Travel for putting together a wonderful ceremony in honor of Our Eddie.
Thank you to those that made the effort to attend the services, it was wonderful to see so many people with love in their hearts gather in remembrance of Eddie.
Thank you to those that posted comments on this page, on Eddies' page, and everywhere else - reading the notes about how wonderful, how loved, and how impactful Our Eddie was put tears in our eyes and smiles on our faces.
Eddie will always be with us. He has already shown many of us that in the few short weeks he's been gone.
As we get back to "normal" every day life, we will see Eddie in the orchids, in the pineapples, in the top hats, and in the love we share with each other. Hopefully we can all continue to leave this place better than we found it.
The services are set for:
June 25, 2016 starting at 2 PM at Robarts Arena
3000 Ringling Blvd.
Sarasota, FL 34237
We all knew "our Eddie" was an incredible person, but seeing and experiencing the outpouring of love has been incredible.
We reached the 10k goal (to hopefully cover funeral costs) within 4 hours of setting up the page. We could not believe it. We initially left the goal at the 10k mark, but now that we are already at 20k (in less than 24 hours), we are realizing more than ever how special our Eddie was and we want to have a forum for family, friends, friends of friends, strangers, etc. to continue to contribute in Eddie's name and to post comments about their love for Eddie and their support for his family during this difficult time.
With that, we have decided to raise the goal to 30k. Please continue to share and spread the word of our Eddie and the special person he was to help ensure his memory lives on through his family.
Below is a recent post from his sister Kim, in honor of her late brother:
"As he traveled around the world, Eddie was the glue in so many ways connecting people near and far with his magnetic personality, captivating green eyes and sparkling smile. Family, work friends, and acquaintances all felt they were special in his presence. He had a way of making the situation lighter, the day easier and the general mood just better. He was witty, charming, kind and always worked to leave things better than he found them. He lived his life exactly the way he wanted to, to the fullest and on his own terms. We all loved him deeply and more importantly accepted him for who he was. As a family, we are comforted by the out-pouring of unconditional love from each of the lives “our Eddie” touched.
Eddie loved all of us, and we all loved him. No animosity, no judgement. He was ours and we were all his."
We will share any additional information we have on services and other events as things are confirmed.
Hi there, I want to reach out to let you know that Metro Church and our Senior Minister, Seth Cain would like to offer our building and services free of charge to any of the families who need a place for services or memorials. Here is the link to the video that Seth sent out on social media. https://vimeo.com/170479270 Metro Church 1491 E S.R. 434 Winter Springs, FL 32708 407-366-7714 www.metroc.org
I would like to offer my services free of charge as a florist for the funeral service. Trader Joe's has offered to donate the free flowers and I will be happy to arrange them in either several large funeral arrangements or one large casket spray. All I need to know is which you would like and what funeral home you're using and what date to drop off free of charge for everything of course. My name is Diana Hopkins and my phone number is 407-927-5043.
Ummm... first of all... this was a regular family that did not expect to be globally known and supported. The gofundme was created on their Facebook and they did not realize at all how much support they already have from the world and who knows when they will even see that money the funeral needs to happen asap. This is an ordinary loving family that overnight lost a loved one and they are all very much still in shock processing what happened. They are concerned with funeral costs and gofundme was shared between close friends to help pay for funeral costs. All the money in the world can't replace Eddie and please refrain from the hateful comments about raising money these people don't want fame and fortune they want their loved ones alive and healthy and they are devastated. The entire event has not even caught up with them yet they are shocked. So how dare you come here with your hate, we don't have room for hate anymore. How dare you.
@Flor - thank you for your condolence. I want to make it clear that I started the GoFundMe account to help ensure that the family has one less thing to worry about during this chaotic time. I am aware of the general fund that has raised over 3 million dollars (incredible support!!) but the family does not know how/if/when they will ever see any of that. They do know they have unexpected expenses involved with burying a loved one, along with countless other expenses they haven't even been hit with yet. Keeping in mind that this is not a "normal" death, funeral, etc. there are additional headaches, questions, expenses that no one could plan for. My hope is that the family is able to answer any questions and make any decisions they need to without having finances play into it as they do not need any added stress. Thank you to all that have supported the family, whether it be through donations, notes of encouragement, or prayers from afar.
@flor are you kidding me? Who are you to decide if a family has any right to set up a gofund me acct. If you don't feel comfortable donating then you know what, keep scrolling no need to be a troll and add negativity to an already horrible horrible tragedy. Not that it's any of your business but you do understand there is more to pay for than funeral arrangements when a loved ones dies right? What if he had student loans that need to be paid back, what if he has credit cards that need to be paid off, what if he has a house with a mortgage that now needs to be taken care of, what if he's got a car that needs to be paid off. Seriously let's not be an ignorant ass because you "think" everything is being taken care of for this family. Do some research or think before you leave comments like that or better yet just don't even open your mouth. Im praying for everyone who has been affected by this tragedy, the hate needs to stop, I'm very very sorry for your loss
@Sanchez: So, why are you visiting this account ??? Are you leaving such nasty comment on every personal accounts ??? Get out of here and leave grieving families in peace. They don't need your 5 minutes of fame right now. Love to family and friends, you're in our prayers all around the world.
So sorry for ur loss. My heart goes out to everyone. Why the gofund act.? Family doesn't have to worry about the funeral expenses. Not sure or don't understand how can money make anything better for the family. They have raised over 3 million dollars for the victims and their family . The hospital also has another fundraiser to cover medical bills. I'm sorry but I won't be donating to any one of the families that creates personal acts.
I am a total stranger to your family and friends. When I first saw his pictur when we were learning of those killed, I was so mesmerized by his eyes. He had such beautiful eyes. I loved eddie's story. It's heartbreaking to know that there are still some people who are insistent on being cruel even after the attack. I wanted to let you know that he was first and foremost a child of God as we all are. Eddie always had God's unconditional love as we all do regardless of sexual preference. I definitely love those beautiful eyes! God bless!
Don't pay any attention to Flor Sancez. She is posting on all of the victims of Orlando gofundme pages. My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of all the beautiful souls lost and injured in Orlando.
I am so sorry for your loss as well as all victims in Orlando. Sending Prayers.
Eddy, you are in our prayer's and thoughts. May you rest in peace Gone but never forgotten .. Your cousin Nancy and rest of Fam..! Boston, Mass
