As-salamu ‘alaykum,
Today, May 15, marks the Nakba, in which more than 700,000 Palestinian Arabs fled or were forced from their homes to neighboring states as Israel declared its independence. Currently, Palestinian demonstrations in Gaza call for the refugees’ right to return to the homes they were forcibly expelled from 70 years ago. Israeli forces have killed at least 52 Palestinians in the demonstrations.
Since the conflict in 1948, Jordan has accepted around 2 million Palestinian refugees, along with more than 630,000 Syrians after the uprising against the Syrian government in 2011. Many orphanages in Jordan have accepted Palestinian and Syrian refugees. These orphanages rely on donations from organizations and civilians to operate.
An orphanage in Irbid, Jordan is home to around 600 students. Out of these 600 students, 80% of them are Syrian and Palestinian refugees. Obstacles for education continually increase because the institution is not receiving enough funding to sustain itself. The futures of these students are at stake- and we can help.
The orphanage is in dire need of educational supplies:
· School bags
· School supplies (pencils, notepads, books, etc.)
· Computers
· Funding to hire teachers
They are also in need of indoor/outdoor recreational items such as:
· Table Tennis Table
· Billiards Table
· Playground
· Swimming Pool
Lastly, the orphanage is in need of funding to provide care to the psychological well being of the students.
I am Jenna Alkhatib and I'll be visiting the orphanage in Irbid this July. Help me protect, empower, and enlighten the orphans by donating this Ramadan.

During most summers, I visit Irbid, Jordan to spend time with my grandparents and extended family. I had the opportunity to volunteer at the orphanage during last Ramadan. Volunteering at the orphanage made me aware of the improvements that can be done to better the lives of the students. I was able to keep in contact with the institution through email. After this campaign concludes, I plan on traveling to Irbid, Jordan with the donations and buying the supplies listed to distribute to the students. Hopefully, I will be able to document this journey.
